Analysis of developing and fully developed turbulent flow and heat transfer in a square-sectioned U-bend duct

Turbulent flow and thermal field were predicted in a square-sectioned 180° bend at a Reynolds number of 56000. Suga's low-Re cubic k-ε model [5-6] and the RSM [7-8] were used. The results were compared to experimental data [1]. Identical inlet boundary conditions were used in both cases. The inlet length impact on the flow-heat transfer in the bend was investigated. The velocities are higher near

Magnetic dipole excitations in even-even nuclei

The properties of K(pi) = 1+ states in deformed even-even rare-earth nuclei have been investigated within the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA). The B(M1) spectrum and the differential cross section for electron scattering have been calculated and are seen to be consistent with the interpretation that the experimental 1+ states first considered to be a scissors mode, actually corresp

Deaths and tumours in workers grinding stainless steel - a follow-up study

OBJECTIVE: To study cause specific mortality and cancer morbidity in workers exposed to the dust of grinding materials, grinding agents, and stainless steel, especially with regard to a possibly increased risk of respiratory, stomach, and colorectal cancer. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study, using reference cohorts of blue collar workers and population rates for comparison. The exposed cohort c

Some Aspects of Current Discourse on Knowledge Production and Knowledge Exchange between 'East' and 'West'

Increasing international and, often, cross-cultural contacts and exchanges in all spheres of human activity have created a world in which the access to other, alternative knowledge pools seems to be easier than ever before. Science in particular, or, more generally, fields of knowledge creation, are considered to have greatly benefited from this global inter-connectedness. At the same time, we can

A study of methods for protecting an SCP from overload

This paper deals with overload control algorithms that should see to that throughput in an service control points (SCP) is kept high, also under severe overload conditions. A couple of basic overload control schemes like random admittance, call gapping and window flow control are examined. We stress that the algorithms should both be efficient and show fairness among a number of SSPs logically con

Neutral dissociation by non-Rydberg doubly excited states

Neutral photodissociation from N2 has been studied in the range 20–30 eV by observing dispersed fluorescence from excited N fragments. From comparisons with calculations using many-body perturbation theory it follows that these fragmentations follow from predissociations of N2 Rydberg series by a number of non-Rydberg doubly excited states.

Numerical evaluation of potential integrals containing higher order hierarchical H(div) Legendre basis functions for parameterized quadrilateral surface cells

The singularity cancelation scheme initially introduced by Khayat and Wilton for evaluating singular and near-singular potential integrals with 1/R singularities has in this paper been applied to parameterized quadrilateral cells containing higher order hierarchical H(div) Legendre basis functions. The singular and near-singular potential integrals treated in this paper appear in the method of mom

Moral Hazard and Insurance: Optimality, Risk and Preferences

Vi fåThe thesis consists of an introductory chapter, followed by three chapters which all deal with theoretical issues related to moral hazard and insurance. In Chapter 2 we assume symmetric and perfect information. We conclude that, given some standard assumptions, the expected utility function cannot be quasi-concave, which strengthens earlier findings in the literature. As a consequence convex prefe
