Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common primary liver cancer, is usually diagnosed in its late state. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as sorafenib and regorafenib are one of the few treatment options approved for advanced HCC and only prolong the patient's life expectancy by a few months. Therefore, there is a need for novel effective treatments. Cyclophilins are intracellular proteins tha

Ganciclovir (GCV) is the first-line therapy against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a widespread infection that is particularly dangerous for immunodeficient individuals. Closely resembling deoxyguanosine triphosphate, the tri-phosphorylated metabolite of GCV (GCV-TP) is preferentially incorporated by the viral DNA polymerase, thereby terminating chain extension and, eventually, viral replication. H

Large attachments can dramatically affect the dynamic response of an assembled structure. In various industrial sectors, e.g., the automotive, aircraft, and shipbuilding industries, it is often necessary to predict the dynamic response of assembled structures and large attachments in early-stage engineering design. To deal with this, it is often the finite element method (FEM) that is used in the

Thanks to name statistics published by the national bureaus of statistics in Scandinavia it is possible to study the changing popularity of first names. This paper is based on statistics from the years 1998-2002 in Sweden, 1998-2000 in Finland and 1880-2000 in Norway. The rise and fall in popularity — and in some cases renaissance — of individual names are shown and analyzed. It is observed that

A number of typical particle verbs in Swedish and English are presented and it is noted that such verbs are often forgotten in dictionaries and not given the proper treatment in grammars. One problem is the identification of these verbs, another is the fact that the verb and the particle may be separated by other words. The particle verbs must therefore be treated as discontinuous lexical items. I

Speaking involves a process of selecting words and constructions which correspond to the thoughts that one wishes to express. Different languages place different constraints on this selection process, corresponding to their typological characteristics. In this paper we show how Swedish, French and Thai preferentially express motion events differently and suggest

A 75 kDa protein was purified to homogeneity from granule extracts of normal human granulocytes using Sephadex G-75 chromatography, Mono-S cation exchange chromatography and chromatofocusing. The protein consisted of one chain with a molecular mass of 75 kDa, as determined by SDS/PAGE. Tryptic peptide analysis by MALDI-TOF (matrix-assisted laser-desorption ionization-time-of-flight) MS and sequenc

We consider a class of generalized harmonic functions in the open unit disc in the complex plane. Our main results concern a canonical series expansion for such functions. Of particular interest is a certain individual generalized harmonic function which suitably normalized plays the role of an associated Poisson kernel.

Enterococcus faecalis can cause infective endocarditis and other complicated infections. We prospectively investigate the incidence of persistent bacteremia with E. faecalis. Of 50 episodes with monomicrobial E. faecalis bacteremia the control blood culture after 48 to 72 hours was positive in 5 episodes (10%) of which 4 had a complicated focal infection.

A series of new cationic dioxidomolybdenum(VI) complexes [MoO2(Ln)]PF6 (2–5) with the tripodal tetradentate pyridyl aminophenolate ligands HL2-HL5 have been synthesized and characterized. Ligands HL2-HL4 carry substituents in the 4-position of the phenolate ring, viz. Cl, Br and NO2, respectively, whereas the ligand HL5, N-(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butylbenzyl)-N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine, is a der

We contribute to the literature on the assessment of innovation systems by relating the amount of inputs available to the system and its performance through the concept of returns to scale (increasing, constant or decreasing). We study to what extent the size or scale of innovation systems relates to their performance, which is estimated through frontier Data Envelopment Analysis-TOPSIS methods, w
