A photo of the climate activist Greta Thunberg in Hambacher Wald ( a Rhineland lignite mining area) aroused a media hype in the German press for the wrong reasons. If Thunberg visited Hambacher Wald in order to protect the forest arguing that we are ”ignoring natural climate solutions” there trees are told to be a “tool we can use to repair our broken climate” the headdress of a person pictured a

Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) E1 and E6 proteins are produced from mRNAs with retained introns, but it has been unclear how these mRNAs are generated. Here, we report that hnRNP D act as a splicing inhibitor of HPV16 E1/E2- and E6/E7-mRNAs thereby generating intron-containing E1- and E6-mRNAs, respectively. N- and C-termini of hnRNP D contributed to HPV16 mRNA splicing control differently.

AbstractHuman papillomaviruses (HPVs) are small non enveloped viruses that contain a double-stranded circular DNA genome of approximately 8kb in size. It has been estimated that approximately 5% of all cancers are caused by HPV infection. Cervical cancer represents the majority of HPV-associated anogenital cancers worldwide. HPV type16 (HPV16) accounts for 65% of cervical cancer and approximately

Through the participation in the collective creation of two theatre performances, Violence & Learning and Corpus & Punishment, it takes part in the learning about societal phenomena in an attempt to answer the question: How can I participate in the creation o

BackgroundHigh gluten intake is associated with increased risk of celiac disease (CD) in children at genetic risk.ObjectivesTo investigate if different dietary gluten sources up to age two years confer different risks of celiac disease autoimmunity (CDA) and CD in children at genetic risk.DesignThree-day food records were collected at age six, nine, 12, 18 and 24 months from 2088 Swedish genetical

Drag torque in a disc brake is the residual torque when the brake is not activated. This torque can adversely influence the total energy consumption, life of the brake components, and level of airborne wear particles from vehicles. Drag torque is of special interest for long haul trucking since it could have an effect of the total energy consumption. Drag torque performance of a disc brake is usua

The phenomenon that contemplating future events elicits stronger emotions than contemplating past events has been coined “temporal value asymmetry” (TVA) (Caruso et al., 2008). We conducted very close replications of three experiments derived from two influential TVA papers: Studies 1 and 4 in Caruso et al. (2008), demonstrating TVA in monetary valuation, and Study 1 in Caruso (2010), demonstratin

BACKGROUND: Screening immigrant mothers for postpartum depression has been shown to be challenging for health care professionals in handling cultural implications of postpartum depression, communicating through interpreter and applying translated versions of the screening scale.AIM: The aim of the study was to test the feasibility of an evidence-based educational intervention for Child Health Serv

Background and Objectives To determine how fully automated Elecsys CSF immunoassays for β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau biomarkers and an ultrasensitive Simoa assay for neurofilament light chain (NFL) correlate with neuropathologic changes of Alzheimer disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). Methods We studied 101 patients with antemortem CSF and neuropathology data. CSF samples were col

Solid materials doped with rare-earth ions are considered an attractive platform for quantum information applications. One of the main reasons for this is the exceptionally long optical and hyperfine coherence times of the 4fn states, due to the shielding provided by the outer lying 5s and 5p electrons. This enables a large number of quantum operations before the system loses its coherence. Anothe

Resilience in tourism studies has mainly departed from a socio-ecological system-theory approach and has developed knowledge in relation to different tourism contexts. This approach has consequences for the conceptualization of resilience and sets limits. Calls for theory development on resilience see a need to take account of, for instance, politics and power relations, and conflicts over resour

BACKGROUND: Delaying cord clamping (CC) for 3-5 minutes reduces iron deficiency and improves neurodevelopment. Data on the effects of CC beyond 3 minutes in relation to short-term neonatal outcomes and maternal risk of postpartum hemorrhage are scarce.METHODS: This was a prospective observational study performed in two delivery departments. Pregnant women with vaginal deliveries were included. Tim

We use a case of intact cord resuscitation to argue for the beneficial effects of an enhanced blood volume from placental transfusion for newborns needing resuscitation. We propose that intact cord resuscitation supports the process of physiologic neonatal transition, especially for many of those newborns appearing moribund. Transfer of the residual blood in the placenta provides the neonate with

Recent studies have identified many potential climate change impacts on bridges. Considering the sheer number of these potential impacts, how can a bridge owner prioritise which impacts to consider, and for which bridges? This paper proposes a risk-based multi-criteria decision analysis method for systematically addressing these two questions simultaneously. The proposed method can be used to addr

Gene expression profiling together with unsupervised analysis methods, typically clustering methods, has been used extensively in cancer research to unravel, e.g., new molecular subtypes that hold promise of disease refinement that may ultimately benefit patients. However, many of the commonly used methods require a prespecified number of clusters to extract and frequently require some type of fea

The primary aim of this study was to determine whether an increase in DLQI score can predict an eczema flare up and thus a need for treatment escalation/physician appointment. The secondary aim was to explore variations in DLQI over time.
