A cappella : Tjugofem körledares röster

Cost assessment of a production system - A method targeting a products aggregated value stream costs

A production system is often complex, involving several production steps with a material flow entering and exiting at different stages throughout the value stream. This article aims to present a method giving the aggregated cost of a product in a production system, were material and components entering the value stream carrying their own capital and handling costs. The article describes an empiric

A doctor's dilemma

Deniz Kirik was drawn to medicine by his desire to better understand the human brain, but he found that doctors in his native Turkey have little opportunity for research. Nonetheless, he has turned what first felt like a failed career choice into an advantage. Now a neuroscience professor at Lund University in Sweden and co-founder of a spinoff company, Kirik uses his medical background to develop

Novel oligodendroglial alpha synuclein viral vector models of multiple system atrophy : studies in rodents and nonhuman primates

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a horrible and unrelenting neurodegenerative disorder with an uncertain etiology and pathophysiology. MSA is a unique proteinopathy in which alpha-synuclein (α-syn) accumulates preferentially in oligodendroglia rather than neurons. Glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs) of α-syn are thought to elicit changes in oligodendrocyte function, such as reduced neurotrophic su

The ECHR and contractual provisions on dispute resolution

The right of access to court and the right to a fair trial are fundamental rights guaranteed in all democratic states. The basic ideas are that anyone is entitled to have a dispute heard by a court of law in a procedure that meets certain requirements, i.e., a fair trial, and that the State has a duty to make such judicial dispute-resolution procedures possible. One of the most fundamental legal p

An intervention model with self-assessment and subsequent multi-professional review might be effective and feasible to improve drug safety in primary healthcare. A survey-based evaluation of SÄKLÄK2.

Rationale, aims, and objectivesDrug‐related morbidity is common, which results in suffering for the patients and a high cost to society. SÄKLÄK2 is a multi‐professional intervention model aiming at improving drug safety in primary health care. The objective of this study was to elucidate the perceptions of the participants' regarding the efficiency of the intervention and the feasibility to introd

Introducing the Historical Varieties of Democracy dataset : Political institutions in the long 19th century

The Historical Varieties of Democracy dataset (Historical V-Dem) contains about 260 indicators, both factual and evaluative, describing various aspects of political regimes and state institutions. The dataset covers 91 polities globally – including most large, sovereign states, as well as some semi-sovereign entities and large colonies – from 1789 to 1920 for many cases. The majority of the indica

Measurement of charm and bottom production from semileptonic hadron decays in p+p collisions at s =200 GeV

Measurements of the differential production of electrons from open-heavy-flavor hadrons with charm- and bottom-quark content in p+p collisions at s=200 GeV are presented. The measurements proceed through displaced-vertex analyses of electron tracks from the semileptonic decay of charm and bottom hadrons using the PHENIX silicon-vertex detector. The relative contribution of electrons from bottom de

Search for Higgs boson pair production in the WW(*)WW(*) decay channel using ATLAS data recorded at √s = 13 TeV

A search for a pair of neutral, scalar bosons with each decaying into two W bosons is presented using 36.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. This search uses three production models: non-resonant and resonant Higgs boson pair production and resonant production of a pair of heavy scalar particles.

Effect of confined polymer on the properties of lyotropic lamellar mesophases

This thesis deals with the effect of the incorporation of the adsorbing polymer polyethylene glycole (PEG) on the structural and elastic properties of lyotropic lamellar mesophases. In particular, these polymer doped-lamellar phases are of great interest for understanding the intermembrane interactions mediated by the macromolecule. Firstly, the bending elastic modulus of the membranes has been in

Risking Other People's Money : Experimental Evidence on the Role of Incentives and Personality Traits

Decision makers often face incentives to increase risk‐taking on behalf of others through bonus contracts and relative performance contracts. We conduct an experimental study of risk‐taking on behalf of others using a large heterogeneous sample and find that people respond to such incentives without much apparent concern for stakeholders. Responses are heterogeneous and mitigated by personality tr

Search for single production of vector-like quarks decaying into Wb in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for singly produced vector-like quarks Q, where Q can be either a T quark with charge +2/3 or a Y quark with charge −4/3, is performed in proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. The analysis targets Q → Wb decays where the W boson decays leptonica

Analysis of heat and mass transport characteristics in anode-supported solid oxide fuel cells at various operating conditions

In this study, the heat and mass transport characteristics of anode-supported solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are numerically investigated by using a two-dimensional model. The mathematical model is validated by comparing the numerical results with experimental data found in the open literature. The species and temperature distributions of SOFCs at different cell voltages are presented and compared

Modeling of energy consumption in GPS receivers for power aware localization systems

This paper proposes a first-principle model of GPS receivers, that allows us to exploit the trade-off between battery consumption and positioning accuracy. We present the model and propose a GPS sampling strategy that uses both the current positioning confidence, and information about the GPS status. We complement the GPS sensor with internal measurement units and show how the given model exposes

“Breaking up is hard to do” : Some observations on persistence in public-nonprofit partnerships

For many years a good deal of scholarly interest was directed towards the third sector and the supposedly improbable existence of cooperation between this sector and the public sector. As Salamon and Toepler (2015) state, the long reign of the neoclassical market failure and government failure theory had obscured the understanding of public-third sector relations. However, as research on the third
