The Elusive ‘Docent Grade’ : Evaluative Cultures in and Beyond the Swedish Humanities (1876–1969)

In the late nineteenth and for much of the twentieth century, an academic career in Sweden was highly dependent on what grade a scholar’s doctoral dissertation was awarded. Unless receiving a so-called “docent grade”, basically declaring the scholar eligible for seeking the title of docent (associate professor), the prospects of maintaining an academic career were bleak. Search for a resonance decaying into a scalar particle and a Higgs boson in final states with leptons and two photons in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for a hypothetical heavy scalar particle, X, decaying into a singlet scalar particle, S, and a Standard Model Higgs boson, H, using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The explored mass range is 300 ≤ mX ≤ 1000 GeV and 170 ≤ mS ≤ 500 GeV. The signature of this search is one or two leptons

Introduction to the twentieth anniversary special issue on normative power in the planetary organic crisis

This twentieth anniversary special issue broadens the horizons beyond the 2013 Cooperation and Conflict special issue to develop the normative power approach through a prospective on the use of normative power in addressing the planetary organic crisis. This introduction to the special issue first sets out the contribution of the normative power approach then, second, reflects on the past three de

ATLAS searches for additional scalars and exotic Higgs boson decays with the LHC Run 2 dataset

This report reviews the published results of searches for possible additional scalar particles and exotic decays of the Higgs boson performed by the ATLAS Collaboration using up to 140 fb−1 of 13 TeV proton–proton collision data collected during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. Key results are examined, and observed excesses, while never statistically compelling, are noted. Constraints are plac

Special Issue: Normative Power in the Planetary Organic Crisis

This twentieth anniversary special issue broadens the horizons beyond the 2013 Cooperation and Conflict special issue to develop the normative power approach through a prospective on the use of normative power in addressing the planetary organic crisis. The special issue argues that 21st century planetary politics, characterised by truly planetary relations of causality, can be understood and addr

Measuring Collective Action Intention Toward Gender Equality Across Cultures

Collective action is a powerful tool for social change and is fundamental to women and girls’ empowerment on a societal level. Collective action towards gender equality could be understood as intentional and conscious civic behaviors focused on social transformation, questioning power relations, and promoting gender equality through collective efforts. Various instruments to measure collective act

The dark side of land commodification : exploring the multidimensional conflicts in second home development in Ziarat Village, Iran

This study examines the multidimensional conflicts arising from land commodification through second-home development in Ziarat village, Iran, addressing a critical research gap in developing rentier states. Employing grounded theory methodology with data from 75 stakeholder interviews, the research identifies conflicts at individual-individual, individual-institutional, and institutional-instituti

Celiac disease screening in children : evaluating the evidence, benefits, and challenges

Comprehensive screening of the general population is the only approach capable of identifying the majority of cases with celiac disease. In 2023, the Italian Parliament enacted a law to implement nationwide screening for celiac disease and type 1 diabetes. However, critical decisions regarding the target population, optimal timing, and screening methods remain unresolved. Previous observational st

Dual-Band Shared-Aperture Single-Layer Partially Reflective Surface Antenna With Flexible Frequency Ratio

Dual-band shared-aperture Fabry-Pérot cavity (DS-FPC) antennas with single-layer partially reflective surface (PRS) are inherently limited in the achievable frequency ratio. This paper analyzes such antennas to derive the feasible range of frequency ratio and thereafter proposes a dual-band shared-aperture antenna that can fill the frequency ratio gap. The novel design integrates a short backfire

Military Cultural Competency in Canadian Sexual Assault Support Centers : “Not Here for Lessons”

Military cultural competency involves understanding the unique needs of military and veteran (MV) populations. Research shows that culturally competent care improves health outcomes, yet little is known about civilian sexual assault centers (SACs) supporting MV clients. Many MV clients affected by military sexual trauma (MST) seek community services due to mistrust of the military system. This stu

Unveiling gender imbalances among PhD students : early inequalities in productivity and impact influenced by supervisor-student gender combinations

Introduction: Gender imbalances in academia are found globally. Even though women earn the same rate of PhD degrees, the gender imbalance becomes increasingly prominent at higher academic levels. Several reasons have been proposed for these differences, including family responsibilities, disparities in the number and size of grants awarded, invitations to present at conferences, and differences in

Integration of Nordugrid ARC with Galaxy and EGI IM

In the scientific domain of high energy physics (HEP), the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) was created in order to handle the huge compute and storage needs of the experiments at Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Today WLCG combines about 1.4 million computer cores and 1.5 exabytes of storage from over 170 sites in 42 countries. What ties the sites together is the middleware installed at each site,

Constituent Human Rights

This paper explores and develops the concept of constituent human rights. The paper asks what a constituent element within human rights would look like and how such rights could exist on their own outside of the constituted juridico-political sphere or the human rights regime. To understand this, the paper draws on Antonio Negri’s concept of constituent power in order to draw out its implications

Mass determination of two Jupiter-sized planets orbiting slightly evolved stars: TOI-2420 b and TOI-2485 b

Context. Hot and warm Jupiters might have undergone the same formation and evolution path, but the two populations exhibit different distributions of orbital parameters. This challenges our understanding of their actual origin. Aims. We report the results of our warm Jupiters survey, which was carried out with the CHIRON spectrograph within the KESPRINT collaboration. We addressed the question of

Pedestrian model application guidelines

Pedestrian modelling has made its way from a research topic – as presented and discussed in chapters 6 to 9 – to planning, design, and operational applications. This raises many questions on the best way to apply pedestrian modelling for different scenarios. To assist with that and to foster trust in the method of application, various guidelines and norms have been developed. In this chapter five

HR 10 as seen by CHEOPS and TESS: Revealing δ Scuti pulsations, granulation-like signal and hint for transients

Context. HR 10 has only recently been identified as a binary system. Previously thought to be an A-type shell star, it appears that both components are fast-rotating A-type stars, each presenting a circumstellar envelope. Although showing complex photometric variability, spectroscopic observations of the metallic absorption lines reveal variation explained by the binarity, but not indicative of de

Taming a silent killer : uncovering the role of excited states and uncoordinated selenium moieties in the CO photorelease mechanism of manganese(i) carbonyl compounds

Manganese carbonyl compounds can release CO when exposed to light, potentially becoming photochemically activated CO-releasing molecules (photoCORMs). Several studies have demonstrated the behavior in the ground state when irradiated with light. However, much remains to be discovered about the chemistry of photoCORMs with uncoordinated ligand moieties and the excited states of these compounds. Thi
