Riverine sources of bioreactive macroelements and their impact on bacterioplankton metabolism in a recipient boreal estuary
The loading of macroelements such as, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), totalnitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P) from terrestrial soils to aquatic systems isincreasing in the northern hemisphere. This phenomenon has several ecologicaland biogeochemical consequences for inland and coastal water systems, which arelinked to bacterial cycling of DOC, N and P. During growth, bacteria assimilatemacroeleThe loading of terrestrially derived macroelements, such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total nitrogen (N), and total phosphorus (P), to inland and estuarine waters is increasing in the northern hemisphere. Thesemacroelements often limit heterotrophic bacterioplankton metabolism (production and respiration), which in turn influence food web structures, exchange of greenhouse gases between the

Multiple Blockholder Structures and Family Firm Performance
This study examines how multiple blockholder structures affect family firm performance. Building on arguments from both principal–principal agency and familiness perspectives, we suggest that asymmetrical distribution of voting power among family and nonfamily blockholders hurts firm performance. Further, we suggest that the larger the number of blockholder types, the stronger the negative effect
The Sci-Fi Brain: Narratives in Neuroscience and Popular Culture
The connection between neuroscience, popular media and lay perceptions of the brain involves the framing of complex scientific processes and results through familiar cultural narratives and metaphors. Such narratives are often built on the premise that neuroscience, with the help of powerful new technologies, will finally solve the mysteries of brain and mind, consciousness and morality. At the sa
Efficient Processing and Storage for Massive MIMO Digital Baseband
Driven by the increasing demands on data rate from applications, the wireless communication standard has for decades been evolving approximately at a pace of one generation per ten years. Following this trend, the ambitious plan to replace the current cellular mobile network standard (4G) with the next generation standard (5G) is going through the standardization phase and is getting close to its
Starch Pickering Emulsions : Process and Encapsulation Stability
The emulsion stabilization functionality of surfactants and biopolymers can be replaced by solid particles adsorbed at the interface, where they create a category of emulsions known as Pickering emulsions. Recently, health and environmental concerns have led to new market demand for natural, biodegradable and renewable sources of ingredients. Starch granules meet these ingredient requirements and
One page of text : Eye movements during regular and thorough reading, skimming, and spell checking
Eye movements during regular reading, thorough reading, skimming, and spell checking of single pages of text were measured, to investigate how high-level reading tasks elicited by instructions affect reading behavior. Word frequency and word length effects were found. All results were compared to regular reading. Thorough reading involved longer total reading times and more rereading, and resulted
RHYTHM ARCHITECTURE : ON SEQUENTIAL ASPECTS OF MATERIALITIES IN URBAN SPACE
Even though architecture often might be conceived of as timeless, there has always been different ways of dealing with time in architectural discourse and practice. Since the early 20th century the temporal activities that goes on in and between buildings has, for example, been addressed by concepts such as function, flexibility and program. Architecture is of inevitable importance in our everyday
Natural variation in the parameters of innate immune cells is preferentially driven by genetic factors
The quantification and characterization of circulating immune cells provide key indicators of human health and disease. To identify the relative effects of environmental and genetic factors on variation in the parameters of innate and adaptive immune cells in homeostatic conditions, we combined standardized flow cytometry of blood leukocytes and genome-wide DNA genotyping of 1,000 healthy, unrelat

Fast neutron sensitivity of neutron detectors based on boron-10 converter layers
In the last few years many detector technologies for thermal neutron detection have been developed in order to face the shortage of 3He, which is now much less available and more expensive. Moreover the 3He-based detectors can not fulfil the requirements in performance, e.g. the spatial resolution and the counting rate capability needed for the new instruments. The Boron-10-based gaseous detectors
Analysis of the potential of assessing sustainable production with a cost model
This paper investigates the usability of a cost model to assess sustainable production. The aim is to develop an established cost model to also take sustainability into consideration and hence evaluate sustainable production on the shop floor. To facilitate the analyse literature have been studied to find indicators for sustainable production. The indicators have then been mapped together with parThis paper investigates the usability of a cost model to assess sustainable production. Effect of single-dose DPP-4 inhibitor sitagliptin on β-cell function and incretin hormone secretion after meal ingestion in healthy volunteers and drug-naïve, well-controlled type 2 diabetes subjects
To explore the effects of a single dose of the DPP-4 inhibitor sitagliptin on glucose-standardized insulin secretion and β-cell glucose sensitivity after meal ingestion, 12 healthy and 12 drug-naïve, well-controlled type 2 diabetes (T2D) subjects (mean HbA1c 43mmol/mol, 6.2%) received sitagliptin (100mg) or placebo before a meal (525kcal). β-cell function was measured as the insulin secretory rate

Aurora Dumitrescu, author of two novels, Cagliostro and The Bipolar(Tracus Arte Press, 2016). The Bipolar places its action in the contemporary world and applies not very different narrative techniques. The similarity in parallel readings shows that the Coelho model is obvious, but I would saythat Aurora Dumitrescu respects more her readers, as she stimulates their intelligence too. The only honor
Long-term prediction of prostate cancer diagnosis and death using PSA and obesity related anthropometrics at early middle age : Data from the malmö preventive project
Objectives: To evaluate whether anthropometric parameters add to PSA measurements in middle-aged men for risk assessment of prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis and death. Results: After adjusting for PSA, both BMI and weight were significantly associated with an increased risk of PCa death with the odds of a death corresponding to a 10 kg/m2 or 10 kg increase being 1.58 (95% CI 1.10, 2.28; p = 0.013)
Culprit and nonculprit recurrent ischemic events in patients with myocardial infarction : Data from SWEDEHEART (Swedish Web System for Enhancement and Development of Evidence-Based Care in Heart Disease Evaluated According to Recommended Therapies)
Background--Long-term disease progression after myocardial infarction (MI) is inadequately understood. We evaluated the pattern and angiographic properties (culprit lesion [CL]/non-CL [NCL]) of recurrent MI (re-MI) in a large real-world patient population. Methods and Results--Our observational study used prospectively collected data in 108 615 patients with first-occurrence MI enrolled in the SWE
