Effects of dopamine and excitotoxicity in experimental models of Huntington's disease
Sjukdomen orsakas av att HuntingtongenenHuntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of a CAG repeat in the HD gene, that leads to dysfunction and death of striatal neurons. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying HD are not known, but excitotoxicity and dopamine (DA) have been suggested to play a role. In this thesis, the effects of excitotoxicity and DA have been studied in striatal in vit

Anders Nygrens ambition was to develop a criterion by which he could distinguish between science and non-science. This is th K(v) of Nygren. According to Nygreb tgere are three ways of arguing in science which all fullfill the demand of K(v): a) deductive argumentation b) empirical argumentation and c) philosophical argumentation. a) and b) operate at the material level and c) at the formal one. c

Finding fast action selectors for dataflow actors
The parallel structure of dataflow programs and their support for processing streams of data make dataflow programming an interesting tool for doing stream processing on parallel processing architectures. The computational kernels, the actors, of a dataflow program communicate with other actors via FIFO channels. The actors in the dataflow model used in this paper may perform different actions dep
Development and Evaluation of a Filter-Bed-Based System for Full-Scale Treatment of Industrial Landfill Leachate
It is well known that nature offers an abundance of materials and processes that can be adapted in low-tech fashion, to fabricate systems capable of removing pollutants from wastewater. During the last decade, extensive basic and engineering research on such natural treatment systems have led to improvement of the quality of discharged wastewaters. However, the mechanisms of natural treatment and

Vem definierar religion?

Reliability-based design for soil tillage machines
Using classical design methods for tillage machines does not completely guarantee a safety and satisfactory performance, due in part to the randomness of tillage forces. This randomness is derived from the variability in soil engineering properties and the variations in tool design parameters and operational conditions. In this paper, a reliability-based design approach was developed, for the firs
Characteristics of Welding Fumes
The aerosols from 13 common electric arc welding processes have been characterized regarding total emission, particle size distribution, elemental composition and, when applicable, the oxidation state of chromium. The characterizations have been performed systematically for different combinations of welding current and welding voltage.
