Identification of novel proteolytic forms of osteocalcin in human urine

In this study, we report the isolation and characterization of osteocalcin in human urine using mass spectrometry and N-terminal sequencing. Multiple proteolytic forms of osteocalcin were found, which consisted of 16-27 residues from the middle region of the molecule. Several fragments had residue Gly7 at the N-terminus and the most predominant was fragment 7-31. Additional fragments starting from

The G-protein coupled receptor CMKLR1/ChemR23: Studies on gene regulation, receptor ligand activation, and HIV/SIV co-receptor function

Då en signalmolekyl binder till en GPCR ändrar deIn all higher organisms, there is a need for intercellular communication. G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), located on the cell surface, play an important role in this communication. Cells synthesize and release signalling molecules (ligands), which produce a specific response only in those cells that have a receptor for that ligand. The total number of GPCRs is estimated to be around 800 where

Migration of uncemented, long-stem femoral components in revision hip arthroplasty. A 2-8 year clinical follow-up of 45 cases and radiostereometric analysis of 13 cases

We reviewed after 48 (24-90) months the clinical results in 45 cases of revision hip arthroplasties where an uncemented, long-stem femoral prosthesis (BIAS, Zimmer) had been used. A subgroup of 13 cases was followed with radiostereometric analysis (RSA) for 2 years. 3/45 cases had been revised, another 12 had unsatisfactory pain scores. The median Harris score was 69 (26-99). 12/13 stems migrated;

Defense mechanisms and morality: A link between isolation and moralization.

The relationship between morality and perceptual defense mechanisms was studied. Three new scales were constructed to measure different aspects of morality: moralism (the tendency to evaluate everything in terms of right and wrong), conscience (strength of feelings of right and wrong) and reparation (inclination to repair the damage one has caused). Perceptual defense mechanisms were measured with

An analytical model to predict dune erosion due to wave impact

An analytical model is developed to calculate recession distance and eroded volume for coastal dunes during severe storms. The transport relationship used in the model is based on wave impact theory, where individual swash waves hitting the dune face induce the erosion. Combining this relationship with the sediment volume conservation equation describes the response of the dune to high waves and w

Globalization and the capacity of violence to transform social spaces: Some critical points about the Latin America debate

The aim of this study is to try and explain the relationship between violence and the changes taking place in social spaces. Violence, in all its dimensions, has taken a central place in Latin American social life and has become an almost totally private issue. This implies a series of spatial and social transformations in the cities. The new effects of violence influence social and ethnic segrega

Statistical analysis of non-Gaussian environmental loads and responses

The thesis deals mainly with offshore engineering related problems where the dominant source of uncertainty is related to the loading. Loads arise from environmental random processes; e.g. waves, currents and winds. Complex as they are, such processes beg the consideration of randomness whence the need of associating probabilistic models to the engineering problems treated here. Two different typ

Rotational Bands in 76Rb

High spin states in 76Rb were investigated via the reaction 40Ca(40Ca,3pn)76Rb at 128 MeV. The level scheme was established from γγ, γγγ and recoil-γ coincidences measured in the EUROGAM I array in combination with the Daresbury recoil separator. The known rotational bands were extended up to the excitation energy Ex≊9.2 MeV and spins Iπ=(21+) and (19-). The band head energies could be fixed by ma

An Integrated System-Level Design for Testability Methodology An Integrated System-Level Design for Testability Methodology

HARDWARE TESTING is commonly used to check whether faults exist in a digital system. Much research has been devoted to the development of advanced hardware testing techniques and methods to support design for testability (DFT). However, most existing DFT methods deal only with testability issues at low abstraction levels, while new modelling and design techniques have been developed for design at
