Right ventricular volume load and function in congenital heart defects
Pulmonell hypertension vanligt vid kronisk lungsjukdom : Europeiska riktlinjer kring utredning och behandling
Pulmonary hypertension due to lung diseases In 2015 the European Society of Cardiology and European Respiratory Society published new guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension (PH). PH due to lung diseases and/or hypoxia was classified as a separate entity. PH is common in lung diseases, but seldom severe. Nevertheless, the presence of PH in a patient with lung disease is

High-Resolution MR Imaging of Muscular Fat Fraction - Comparison of Three T2-Based Methods and Chemical Shift-Encoded Imaging
Successive Cancellation Decoding of Single Parity-Check Product Codes
We introduce successive cancellation (SC) decoding of product codes (PCs) with single parity-check (SPC) component codes. Recursive formulas are derived, which resemble the SC decoding algorithm of polar codes. We analyze the error probability of SPC-PCs over the binary erasure channel under SC decoding. A bridge with the analysis of PCs introduced by Elias in 1954 is also established. Furthermore

An HIF-1α/VEGF-A Axis in Cytotoxic T Cells Regulates Tumor Progression
Cytotoxic T cells infiltrating tumors are thought to utilize HIF transcription factors during adaptation to the hypoxic tumor microenvironment. Deletion analyses of the two key HIF isoforms found that HIF-1α, but not HIF-2α, was essential for the effector state in CD8+ T cells. Furthermore, loss of HIF-1α in CD8+ T cells reduced tumor infiltration and tumor cell killing, and altered tumor vascular
Lymph node metastases as only qualifier for stage IV serous ovarian cancer confers longer survival than other sites of distant disease – a Swedish Gynecologic Cancer Group (SweGCG) study
Background: The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) ovarian cancer staging system includes no sub-stage for lymph nodes (LN) as only distant disease manifestation. We explore the prognostic implication of LN as only stage IV classifier in serous ovarian cancer. Method: This is a nation-wide, population-based study on 551 women with serous stage IV cancers diagnosed between
Perinatal and familial risk factors for irritable bowel syndrome in a Swedish national cohort
Objective: Studies of the importance of perinatal factors for the development of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are sparse. We conducted a large national cohort study to examine perinatal and familial risk factors for IBS. Material and methods: A national cohort of 1,963,685 persons who were born in Sweden in 1973–1992 (identified from the Swedish Birth Registry) were followed up for adult (18 yea
Qualitative research thrives in primary care with the support of research training and mentoring
Management of community-acquired pneumonia in immunocompetent adults : updated Swedish guidelines 2017
Based on expert group work, Swedish recommendations for the management of community-acquired pneumonia in adults are here updated. The management of sepsis-induced hypotension is addressed in detail, including monitoring and parenteral therapy. The importance of respiratory support in cases of acute respiratory failure is emphasized. Treatment with high-flow oxygen and non-invasive ventilation is
Yoga – a laborious way to well-being : patients’ experiences of yoga as a treatment for hypertension in primary care
Objective: The aim of the study was to describe patients’ experience of yoga as a treatment for hypertension, as well as their experience of living with hypertension. Design: Qualitative interview study Method and materials: In 2013–2014, in southern Sweden, patients with hypertension from three health care centres were invited to participate in a randomised controlled trial on yoga for hypertensi
MiR-335 overexpression impairs insulin secretion through defective priming of insulin vesicles
MicroRNAs contribute to the maintenance of optimal cellular functions by fine-tuning protein expression levels. In the pancreatic β-cells, imbalances in the exocytotic machinery components lead to impaired insulin secretion and type 2 diabetes (T2D). We hypothesize that dysregulated miRNA expression exacerbates β-cell dysfunction, and have earlier shown that islets from the diabetic GK-rat model h
Density Measurements of CO2-Expanded Liquids
Novel experimental data of density for mixtures containing CO2 + ethanol, CO2 + ethyl lactate, CO2 + glycerol + ethanol, and CO2 + glycerol + ethyl lactate at low/moderate temperatures (308 and 323 K), pressures between 5 and 30 MPa, and high amounts of the organic solvent (molar fraction x = 0.5-0.9) are presented. The chosen organic solvents (ethanol, ethyl lactate, and glycerol) are green and a
How are biodiversity and dispersal of species affected by the management of roadsides? A systematic map
Background: In many parts of the world, roadsides are regularly managed for traffic-safety reasons. Hence, there are similarities between roadsides and certain other managed habitats, such as wooded pastures and mown or grazed grasslands. These habitats have declined rapidly in Europe during the last century. For many species historically associated with them, roadsides may function as new primary
Asthma symptoms, mannitol reactivity and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in adolescent swimmers versus tennis players
Background: Strenuous physical activity at an elite level is associated with an increased risk for asthma and, in some sports, also prevalence of allergies. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of asthma and allergy among elite swimmers and tennis players and compare airway hyperreactivity to mannitol and exercise. Materials and methods: One hundred and one adolescent swimmers a
Actin retrograde flow actively aligns and orients ligand-engaged integrins in focal adhesions
Integrins are transmembrane receptors that, upon activation, bind extracellular ligands and link them to the actin filament (F-actin) cytoskeleton to mediate cell adhesion and migration. Cytoskeletal forces in migrating cells generated by polymerization- or contractility-driven “retrograde flow” of F-actin from the cell leading edge have been hypothesized to mediate integrin activation for ligand
