Min forskning, som är historisk och filologisk i vid bemärkelse, rör två huvudområden: Indiens inhemska religioner – i synnerhet klassisk och modern hinduism – samt den horoskopiska astrologins framväxt och interkulturella spridning. Inom det senare forskningsområdet, som ligger i gränslandet mellan religions- och vetenskapshistoria och är av största betydelse för global idéhistoria, har jag försökt röra mig bortom diskursen om ”västerländsk esoterism” genom att inkludera Sydasiens underutforskade roll samt ett flertal intellektuella miljöer. Mitt senaste större forskningsprojekt (med professor Olle Qvarnström) resulterade år 2020 i min kritiska utgåva och översättning, publicerad med öppen tillgång, av Hāyanaratna (The Jewel of Annual Astrology), ett encyklopediskt verk om sanskritiserad perso-arabisk (tājika-) astrologi författat på 1600-talet av Balabhadra Daivajña, hovastrolog åt mogulprinsen Shāh Shujāʿ.
