The Clock Hath Stricken Three’: Imagining the Sacred Past and the Dynamics of Anachronism

5 november 2025 17:15 till 18:00 Föreläsning

This lecture will examine how Jews, Christians, and Muslims have retold the same biblical narratives in word and in picture—through poetry, drama, prose, and visual art. We will explore how much the authors’ contemporary realities and religious identities have shaped their works, as well as how interpretations within one religion have influenced those of another. Special attention will be given to the concept of historical awareness—or its absence—in the creative imagining of the sacred past. At times, these differences and interpretations lead to surprising and even humorous moments.
