Object Tracking with Measurements from Single or Multiple Cameras
To be able to determine the position of a static object in 3D space by means of computer vision, it has to be seen by cameras from at least two different view points. The same applies for measuring the position of a moving object based on images captured at one single time instant. However, if the cameras are not synchronized in time, or if a moving object is not visible in all images, one can not
Experimental Evaluation of Predictive Combustion Phasing Control in an HCCI Engine using Fast Thermal Management and VVA
This paper presents experimental results on model predictive control of the combustion phasing in a Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine. The controllers were based on linearizations of a previously presented physical model of HCCI including cylinder wall temperature dynamics. The control signals were the inlet air temperature and the inlet valve closing. A system for fast thermal
Sewage sludge-based activated carbon – Production and potential in wastewater and stormwater treatment
SummarySustainable sewage sludge management has been a heavily debated topic in Europe for more than a decade. Due to its content of pollutants such as heavy metals, pharmaceuticals and other organic micropollutants, the use of sewage sludge for farmland application is currently banned or restricted in most European countries. Therefore, alternative methods for sludge management are discussed. The
An Algorithm for Continuous-Time State Space Identification
We have developed a system identification algorithm to fit continuous-time state-space models to data. The methodology includes a continuous-time operator translation, permitting an algebraic reformulation and the use of subspace and realization algorithms. The new approach has proved effective in identification and modeling of ultrasonic echo applications.

Weakening association of parental education: analysis of child health outcomes in 43 low- and middle-income countries
BackgroundParental education has been suggested to be an effective instrument for improving child health in low- and middle-income countries. Both education and child health have improved, however, as well as related factors. These changes may have implications for the observed association.MethodsWe used Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 43 countries at two points in time, between 1991 a
Religion and child health in West and Central Africa
Studies have suggested a causal link between behaviors and attitudes prescribed by religious doctrine and child health. However, religious affiliation can also be a marker of differential access to resources and living standards. Studies have found that children born to Muslims in West Africa have poorer health outcomes than children born to Christians. Despite coexisting within national borders,
Improving technical methods for assessment of workplace ergonomic exposure
Background: Repetitive work, work performed in awkward and constrained postures and work with excessive or sustained muscular load is common in many occupational settings. Such work is known to be risk factors for developing musculoskeletal disorders in the neck/shoulder region and in arms and hands. One method that can be used to assess the exposure to these risk factors is technical recordings t
Are out-of-school adolescents at higher risk of adverse health outcomes? Evidence from 9 diverse settings in sub-Saharan Africa
Objectives: We analysed mutually comparable surveys on adolescent attitudes and behaviours from nine sites in seven sub‐Saharan African countries, to determine the relationship between school enrolment and adolescent health outcomes. Methods: Data from the Africa Research, Implementation Science, and Education Network cross‐sectional adolescent health surveys were used to examine the associations o
Creativity as a matter of context. : On the assessment of creativity and originality in artistic higher education.
In education programs with an artistic ground, i.e. where the student is supposed to develop an artistic skill, the overall objective is to provide the fundament for a practitioner to become a well functioning individual in a specific artistic community. This artistic community of practice plays – directly through professionally active teachers, and indirectly through teachers with a good understa
Sex differences in predictors of mortality in patients with Alzheimer’s disease – A 20-year follow-up.
Objectives: To identify sex-specific factors that may predict life expectancy after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods: The Swedish Alzheimer Treatment Study (SATS) is a prospective, observational, multicentre study in clinical practice that includes 1,021 participants (367 males and 654 females) diagnosed with mild-to-moderate AD at the start of cholinesterase inhibitor treatment (t
Trends in Antimicrobial Drug Resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae Isolates at Jordan University Hospital (2000–2018)
Antimicrobial drug resistance (AMR) in pneumococci complicates the treatment of serious pneumococcal infections. Country-specific AMR patterns can help to establish guidelines for empiric therapy. The aim of the current study was to analyze the distribution of AMR among Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates at Jordan University Hospital (JUH) during 2000–2018. Paper-based and electronic clinical data
A return to Wonderland : Exploring the links between academic identity development and creativity during doctoral education
Creativity is essential to knowledge production within universities and beyond. Yet, conditions for creativity receive scant scholarly attention as a feature of doctoral development, or as an element of institutional evolution within higher education. Even fewer authors have considered how creativity may be linked to doctoral students’ academic identity formation. In this paper, we analyse literat

Pushing the Online Matrix-Vector Conjecture Off-Line and Identifying Its Easy Cases
Henzinger et al. posed the so called Online Boolean Matrix-vector Multiplication (OMv) conjecture and showed that it implies tight hardness results for several basic partially dynamic or dynamic problems [STOC’15].We show that the OMv conjecture is implied by a simple off-line conjecture. If a not uniform (i.e., it might be different for different matrices) polynomial-time preprocessing of the mat
Neutrophil extracellular traps in the central nervous system hinder bacterial clearance during pneumococcal meningitis
Neutrophils are crucial mediators of host defense that are recruited to the central nervous system (CNS) in large numbers during acute bacterial meningitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Neutrophils release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) during infections to trap and kill bacteria. Intact NETs are fibrous structures composed of decondensed DNA and neutrophil-derived antimicrobial prote
