The paper examines how interjections have been treated in linguistic literature; on what grounds they have been separated from pure response cries; and what their relation is to iconic (onomatopoeic) vocabulary items. Second, the paper examines various English grammars intended for university level students, especially in second language contexts, to see how their treatment of interjections reflec

Abstract:A pair of morphologically differentiated sex chromosomes is reported from the Valencian endemic, Silene diclinis. In S. diclinis, the sex chromosomes differ in centromere position, but X and Y chromosomes are approximately equal in length. In the other dioecious species in Silene sect. Elisanthe, the Y chromosome is considerably longer than the X chromosome.Resumen:Se da noticia de un par

Partially Premixed Combustion has shown to be a promising internal combustion concept in terms of engine efficiency and emission levels, however, since the combustion process is partly kinetically controlled, unacceptably high pressure-rise rates could occur at various operating points. A remedy to this problem is the use of a pilot-fuel injection. This paper characterizes double injection effects

For assembly tasks, the knowledge of both trajectory and forces are usually required. Consequently, we may use kinesthetics or teleoperation for recording human demonstrations. In order to have a more natural interaction, the operator has to be provided with a sense of touch. We propose a bilateral teleoperation system which is customized for this purpose. We introduce different coordinate frames

This paper investigates the role of human agency in 40 phases of regional economic development in 12 Nordic regions over 30 years. It contributes with a theoretical framework to study agency over time and a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis based on a unique dataset combining over 200 interviews, with printed and online sources, and quantitative data. The paper identifies which combinatio

Our overall understanding of long-term climate dynamics is largely based on proxy data generated from archives such as ice cores, ocean sediments, tree rings, speleothems, and corals, whereas reconstructions of long-term changes in vegetation and associated climate during the Holocene are largely based on paleoecological records from peat and lake sequences, primarily pollen and plant macrofossil

Increasing occurrences of extreme weather events, such as the 2018 drought over northern Europe, are a concerning issue under global climate change. High-resolution archives of natural hydroclimate proxies, such as rapidly accumulating sediments containing biogenic carbonates, offer the potential to investigate the frequency and mechanisms of such events in the past. Droughts alter the barium (Ba)

Binding between protein molecules on contacting cells is essential in initiating and regulating several key biological processes. In contrast to interactions between molecules in solution, these events are restricted to the two-dimensional (2D) plane of the meeting cell surfaces. However, converting between the more commonly available binding kinetics measured in solution and the so-called 2D bind

RATIONALE: Vascular calcification is a prominent feature of late-stage diabetes, renal and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and has been linked to adverse events. Recent studies in patients reported that plasma levels of osteomodulin (OMD), a proteoglycan involved in bone mineralisation, associate with diabetes and CVD. We hypothesised that OMD could be implicated in these diseases via vascular calci

Linking the fragmentary information provided in Kazuo Ishiguro’s “A Family Supper” (1982) to the first-person narrator’s unwillingness – or perhaps inability – to communicate, this brief note comments on a few passages that highlight the unforthcoming traits of the narrator.
