We present an initial design study for LDMX, the Light Dark Matter Experiment, a small-scale accelerator experiment having broad sensitivity to both direct dark matter and mediator particle production in the sub-GeV mass region. LDMX employs missing momentum and energy techniques in multi-GeV electro-nuclear fixed-target collisions to explore couplings to electrons in uncharted regions that extend
A search for dark matter produced in association with a Higgs boson decaying to b-quarks is performed using pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=13 TeV. The dataset has an integrated luminosity of 79.8 fb−1 and was recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Selected collision events comprise large missing transverse momentum and either two b-tagged small radius jets o
This study evaluated long-term effects of 12 weeks of supervised training, of at least 45 minutes duration with two sessions per week, on physical performance and psychological well-being after myocardial infarction (MI). Sixty-nine patients were randomized to either an exercise or a nonexercise group. Maximum exercise capacity 6 weeks post-MI was inversely related to the acute peak aspartate amin
Objective: Adductor muscle strain in ice hockey is a major problem associated with reduced hip strength. The aims of this study were to examine between-limb differences in hip adduction and abduction strength, and adduction/abduction strength ratios in male elite junior ice hockey players. Further aim was to explore whether these hip strength measures are related to a history of groin injury. Meth
By aiming to establish single-ended standoff combustion diagnostics, bidirectional lasing emissions of atomic hydrogen at 656 nm wavelength have been generated via two-photon resonant excitation by focusing 205 nm femtosecond laser pulses into a premixed CH4/O2 flame. The forward lasing strength is approximately one order of magnitude stronger than that of the backward one, due to the geometry of
This article presents the results of a study of the Swedish multi-family housing stock in relation to its daylight performance under overcast sky conditions. A total of 8573 rooms in 35 existing buildings were investigated using advanced lighting simulations to determine their point daylight factor, as defined in the current building regulations. The buildings were selected based on their architec
This study assesses the trade-offs between the conflicting objectives of reducing heating intensity and increasing daylight utilization in the context of Swedish residential spaces, specifically for a north oriented bedroom. The optimization process is conducted within the visual programming environment of Grasshopper, where the simulation engines of Energyplus, Radiance and Daysim are interconnec
This is one the 13 chapters included in the book titled "Daylighting and Lighting under a Nordic sky". The chapter focuses on daylight simulation for buildings. It begins with the fundamental elements existing in every daylight simulation scenario, i.e. the scene geometry, the sky model, the ground, the areas of interest, the space usage and the simulation engine. The reader is introduced to diffe
We present the hard X-ray generation of K α lines in high-Z elements – platinum and tungsten – targets using the kHz repetition rate TW-class 850 nm, 10 fs laser pulses. The estimated Pt and W Kα1 X-ray photon flux from the recorded spectrum was 1.3 × 10 7 and 1.4 × 10 7 photons/s, respectively, in 2π solid angle. The calculated values of the photon conversion efficiency were 1.3 × 10 - 8 for
The activity of 158Tb was measured in waste samples from the Ignalina NPP Unit I RBMK-1500 reactor using gamma-ray spectrometry. The origin of 158Tb and the other observed gamma-ray emitters has been studied by using SCALE 6.1 modeling and comparing radionuclide ratios in the RBMK-1500 radioactive waste. The results of the calculation of the massic activity of gamma-ray emitters were used for inte
