Eastbound Tourism in the Cold War : The History of the Swedish Communist Travel Agency Folkturist

Millions of Westerners went on holiday behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. This article considers the place of Eastern Europe in the international travel industry through the prism of Folkturist, a travel agency owned by the Communist Party of Sweden. By analysing Folkturist's business strategies and interactions with the East European tourist industries, the article shows the competing i

Revisiting Public Support for the Euro, 1999-2017 : Accounting for the Crisis and the Recovery

This paper explores the evolution and determinants of public support for the euro since its creation in 1999 until the end of 2017, thereby covering the pre-crisis experience of the euro, the crisis years and the recent recovery. Using uniquely large macro and micro databases and applying up-to-date econometric techniques, we revisit the growing literature on public support for the euro. First, we

Prognostic impact of systolic blood pressure variability in people with diabetes

Objective Blood pressure variability (BPV) has been associated with risk of cardiovascular events in observational studies, independently of mean BP levels. In states with higher autonomic imbalance, such as in diabetes, the importance of BP variability may theoretically be even greater. We aimed to investigate the incremental value of BPV for prediction of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality i

Liposuction Treatment of Lymphedema

In the Western world, lymphedema most commonly occurs following treatment of cancer. Limb reductions have been reported utilizing various conservative therapies including manual lymph and pressure therapy, as well as by microsurgical reconstruction involving lymphovenous shunts and transplantation of lymph vessels or nodes. Failure of these conservative and surgical treatments to provide complete

Sub-100-nm gate-length scaling of vertical InAs/InGaAs nanowire MOSFETs on Si

We demonstrate a process to vary the gate-length of vertical MOSFETs on the same sample with high accuracy and high performance. Fabricated vertical InAs/InGaAs MOSFETs on Si have gate length ranging from 25 nm to 140 nm. The results shown are from single nanowire transistors as well as arrays with nanowires ranging from 80 to 500 nanowires. The devices show good yield and clear scaling trends. We

Interactions of nanowires with cells and tissue

III-V nanowires have tunable dimensions, between 40 nm and 100 nm in diameter and between 1 and 15 μm in length. Due to their small diameter, they are ideal candidates to interact with cells without detrimental effects on the cell viability. Nanowires can be used as sensors: in our case, we have shown that arrays of vertical gallium phosphide nanowires are promising materials for biosensing in mem

Long-Term Outcome of Sacrococcygeal Teratoma : A Controlled Cohort Study of Urinary Tract and Bowel Dysfunction and Predictors of Poor Outcome

Objective: To evaluate urinary tract and bowel function in children with sacrococcygeal teratoma, compare the findings with healthy children, and assess predictors of poor outcome. Study design: This was a controlled cohort study of all patients operated for sacrococcygeal teratoma at a tertiary pediatric surgery center, 2000-2013. Urinary and bowel function were compared with healthy control pati
