Prevalence and Clinical Impact of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome in Highly Symptomatic Long COVID

BACKGROUND: The incidence of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in long COVID has been a growing concern since the first cases were reported in 2021. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and clinical impact of POTS in a series of well-characterized patients with long COVID.METHODS: We prospectively analyzed 467 nonhospitalized, highly symptomatic (sick leave ≥50%) patie

Say No and Close the Door? : Codependency Troubles among Parents of Adult Children with Drug Problems in Sweden

Codependency is a term used to describe a range of behaviors among persons who are affected by the problematic drug use of family members. This article analyzes how 32 Swedish parents of adult children with drug problems talked about and understood codependency. The sociology of trouble was used as a theoretical framework and three significant themes were identified in the interviews. The parents

Diversion of methadone and buprenorphine from opioid substitution treatment : a staff perspective

Opioid substitution treatment (OST) is still controversial, despite positive results. The issue of diversion to the illicit drug market is a cornerstone in the criticism typically voiced against the treatment. Little research is available concerning how professionals who work in OST view the issue of diversion. In this article, we discuss existing ideas and attitudes toward diversion of methadone

Diversion of methadone and buprenorphine from opioid substitution treatment : the importance of patients’ attitudes and norms

Aims Methadone and buprenorphine diversion by patients in opioid substitution treatment (OST) is a poorly understood phenomenon. We study the norms and attitudes on diversion among OST patients, including the role these norms and attitudes play as diversion risk factors. We also study whether perceived quality of care, social bonds to treatment staff, and deterrence can be associated with diversio

Property Protection in the Event of a Fire

Timber buildings present unique fire safety challenges compared to non-combustible constructions. Fire damage in timber structures includes smoke, heat-related impacts and firefighting water. Effective fire mitigation strategies, such as smoke detection systems, automatic suppression systems, and compartmentation, can be crucial for enabling timely interventions and minimizing damages. Post-fire r

The Critical Foundations of Truly Sustainable Environmental Auditing : Prioritizing Insight and Impact Over Information Verification

This essay addresses the urgent need for transformative action in environmental governance by exploring the role and essential functionality of environmental auditing. While critical scholarship has questioned the overemphasis on reporting in both research and practice, this essay promotes the obligation on critical accountants and auditing researchers to actively debate and develop the concept of

Fire Risk Perception of Timber Buildings : Implications for the Responsibility of Designers

Timber’s sustainability benefits make it an attractive construction material, but public concerns about fire safety remain a challenge. Many associate timber buildings with higher fire risks, particularly in taller structures, despite trusting regulations and professionals to ensure safety. This highlights a gap between public perception and technical knowledge. Designers have a professional respo

Institutional perspectives on public procurement in the electric bus transition

Electric buses are increasingly popular in public transport systems globally, and in many European contexts, this transition takes place through public procurement. While previous research argues that electrification challenges existing procurement practices and strategies, the aim of the paper is to contribute new knowledge on the role of public procurement in the transition to electric buses andElectric buses are increasingly popular in public transport systems globally, and in many European contexts, this transition takes place through public procurement. Tax Scandals and Investor Reactions

The aim of this paper is to examine how various types of investors react, and how ownership structures of firms involved in unethical tax practices change once these unethical behaviours are made public. It combines news data with market data to identify investor reactions to tax scandals. Using a staggered diff-in-diff approach, we find that different ownership classes such as hedge funds, banks,

Modelling and analysis of blockchain implementation challenges in Indian agri-food supply chain management using the IMF-SWARA technique

Background: India's agriculture and food sector is the backbone of the nation, sustaining a large portion of the population and contributing to global exports. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) generate the bulk of the world's food despite lacking adequate technological infrastructure and operational standards. This study identifies and evaluates the main blockchain challenges affecting fo

Effect of Cr variation on FCC phase fraction in AlCoCrxFeNi(x= 0 - 1) high-entropy alloys synthesised through mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering [abstract]

The effect of Cr variation on FCC/BCC phase formation AlCoCrxFeNi (x=0 - 1) is explored in the present work. Cr is known to be a BCC stabilizerand s-phase former. These phases were reported in AlCoCrFeNi HEAobtained through casting route. We adopted mechanical alloying andspark plasma sintering route, since it suppresses certain complexphases. It is observed that the Cr assists in FCC phase in com
