Pencil beam scanning proton therapy for mediastinal lymphomas in deep inspiration breath-hold : a retrospective assessment of plan robustness
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate pencil beam scanning (PBS) proton therapy (PT) in deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) for mediastinal lymphoma patients, by retrospectively evaluating plan robustness to the clinical target volume (CTV) and organs at risk (OARs) on repeated CT images acquired throughout treatment. Methods: Sixteen mediastinal lymphoma patients treated with

Neutron diffraction from a microgravity-grown crystal reveals the active site hydrogens of the internal aldimine form of tryptophan synthase
Pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP), the biologically active form of vitamin B6, is an essential cofactor in many biosynthetic pathways. The emergence of PLP-dependent enzymes as drug targets and biocatalysts, such as tryptophan synthase (TS), has underlined the demand to understand PLP-dependent catalysis and reaction specificity. The ability of neutron diffraction to resolve the positions of hydrogen a
Operando study of HfO2 atomic layer deposition on partially hydroxylated Si(111)
The introduction of atomic layer deposition (ALD), to the microelectronics industry has introduced a large number of new possible materials able to be deposited in layers with atomic thickness control. One such material is the high-κ oxide HfO2; thermally stable and ultrathin HfO2 films deposited by ALD are a significant contender to replace SiO2 as the gate oxide in capacitor applications. We pre
Development of combined operando diagnostics : Applications in heterogeneous catalysis and electrochemistry
With the aim to bridge the pressure gap between traditional surface science and industrial applications, heterogeneous catalytic reactions on model catalysts are increasingly studied at near-ambient pressures. Under those conditions, the gas phase has been shown to play an important role during the interaction at the gas-surface interface making it complex to study. This complexity can be capturedWith the aim to bridge the pressure gap between traditional surface science and industrial applications, heterogeneous catalytic reactions on model catalysts are increasingly studied at near-ambient pressures. Development of a novel AAK1 inhibitor via Kinobeads-based screening
A chemical proteomics approach using Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase (CaMKK) inhibitor–immobilized sepharose (TIM-063-Kinobeads) identified main targets such as CaMKKα/1 and β/2, and potential off-target kinases, including AP2-associated protein kinase 1 (AAK1), as TIM-063 interactants. Because TIM-063 interacted with the AAK1 catalytic domain and inhibited its enzymatic activity m

A perceptual learning approach to the Whorfian hypothesis : Supervised classification of motion
Recent research on the relationship between grammatical aspect and motion event cognition has shown that speakers of nonaspect languages (e.g., German, Swedish) attend to event endpoints more than speakers of aspect languages (e.g., English, Spanish). In this study, we took a perceptual learning approach to the Whorfian hypothesis, training native English speakers to categorize events either in an
Second language influence on first language motion event encoding and categorization in Spanish-speaking children learning L2 English
Studies show cross-linguistic differences in motion event encoding, such that English speakers preferentially encode manner of motion more than Spanish speakers, who preferentially encode path of motion. Focusing on native Spanish speaking children (aged 5;00–9;00) learning L2 English, we studied path and manner verb preferences during descriptions of motion stimuli, and tested the linguistic rela

Environmental defenders work to maintain the peacebuilding role of nature in Northern Uganda
In recent years, there has been a ‘crackdown’ against environmental defenders across Uganda. Journalists, students, farmers, and rural dwellers are defending the natural environment, protesting and mobilizing against unfair treatment and forced displacements brought by fossil fuel infrastructures, agribusiness, hydropower, or carbon offsetting. This has pitted authorities and large-scale capital a
High resolution fluorescence imaging of the alveolar scaffold as a novel tool to assess lung injury
Acute lung injury (ALI) represents an aetiologically diverse form of pulmonary damage. Part of the assessment and diagnosis of ALI depends on skilled observer-based scoring of brightfield microscopy tissue sections. Although this readout is sufficient to determine gross alterations in tissue structure, its categorical scores lack the sensitivity to describe more subtle changes in lung morphology.
Early suppression policies protected pregnant women from COVID-19 in 2020 : A population-based surveillance from the Nordic countries
Introduction: The Coronavirus 2019 Disease (COVID-19) pandemic reached the Nordic countries in March 2020. Public health interventions to limit viral transmission varied across different countries both in timing and in magnitude. Interventions indicated by an Oxford Stringency Index ≥50 were implemented early (March 13–17, 2020) in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland, and on March 26, 2020 in Swe
