BACKGROUND: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common bacteria in human sepsis, a condition in which the activation of blood coagulation plays a critical pathophysiological role. During severe sepsis and septic shock microthrombi and multiorgan dysfunction are observed as a result of bacterial interference with the host defense and coagulation systems.OBJECTIVES: In the present study, staphy
Immunsvar och inflammation vid Crohns sjukdom. Snart möjligt driva diagnostiken längre och utveckla mer specifika läkemedel
The chronic inflammation in Crohn's disease may be caused by aggressive response to bacterial antigens normal to the gut. Genetic and environmental factors modify the inflammatory response evoked by damage to the mucosal gut barrier. Genetic factors may also determine the subsequent course of chronic inflammation. Further elucidation of the pathogenesis might improve our understanding of the heter
Computational Studies of Molybdenum and Tungsten Enzymes
We review computational studies of three important mono-nuclear molybdenum oxo-transfer enzymes, dimethylsulfoxide reductase, sulfite oxidase and xanthine oxidase. We show that calculated energies for these reactions are very sensitive to details in the calculations, in particular to the density-functional method employed and the size of the basis set, but the treatment of dispersion and solvation
Law, Community and the 2011 London Riots
Can local communities on the margins of society be charged with the responsibility of maintaining their own social order? What type of law (if any) can bring social order to these communities? Using semi-structured interviews with social workers, police officers, lawyers and other professionals familiar with the Tottenham riots, this chapter offers an inside view into what community means in a runCan local communities on the margins of society be charged with the responsibility of maintaining their own social order?
