Serum cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) decreases in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with infliximab or etanercept.
Changes in serum cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) were studied during a 6-month period from initiation of treatment of rheumatoid arthritis patients with either infliximab or etanercept, to elucidate whether the favourable results of tissue protection reported in clinical trials are corroborated by changing levels of circulating COMP. Rheumatoid arthritis patients commencing treatment wi
Evidence for microbunching "sidebands" in a saturated free-electron laser using coherent optical transition radiation
We report the first measurements of z -dependent coherent optical transition radiation (COTR) due to electron-beam microbunching at high gains (>10(4) ) including saturation of a self-amplified spontaneous emission free-electron laser (FEL). In these experiments the fundamental wavelength was near 530 nm, and the COTR spectra exhibit the transition from simple spectra to complex spectra (5% spectr

IGF-I/insulin hybrid receptors in human endothelial cells
Vascular complications are common in diabetes. IGF-I receptors (IGF-IR) and insulin receptors (IR) in endothelial cells might respond to altered levels of IGF-I and insulin, resulting in altered endothelial function in diabetes. We therefore studied IGF-IR and IR gene expression, ligand binding, receptor protein, and phosphorylation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). IGF-IR mRNA wa
Closed-loop performance monitoring using loop tuning
In this article it is shown how the tuning of a loop is used to commission a closed-loop performance monitoring method. The extended prediction horizon index is used to monitor disturbance rejection properties expressed with the impulse response. The impulse response is obtained from the tuning of the loop. All parameters of the monitoring method are set by using the impulse response. The presente
Experimental investigation of the Rb-85(2) a (3)Sigma(+)(u) triplet ground state: Multiparameter Morse long range potential analysis
Using perturbation facilitated infrared-infrared double resonance excitation of the Rb-85(2) molecule, we have observed spectrally resolved fluorescence to the a (3)Sigma(+)(u) state. We have analyzed the rovibrational energy level structure of the Rb-85(2) a (3)Sigma(+)(u) state and derived a multiparameter Morse Long Range (MLR) potential and molecular constants for this state, which can be used

Localized versus delocalized excitations just above the 3d threshold in krypton clusters studied by Auger electron spectroscopy
We present Auger spectroscopy studies of large krypton clusters excited by soft x-ray photons with energies on and just above the 3d(5/2) ionization threshold. The deexcitation spectra contain new features as compared to the spectra measured both below and far above threshold. Possible origins of these extra features, which stay at constant kinetic energies, are discussed: (1) normal Auger process
Prompt Particle Decays of Deformed Bands and Nuclear Structure near 56Ni
Excited states in neutron-deficient mass A similar to 60 nuclei were studied by means of several heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions. The G(AMMASPHERE) array in conjunction with ancillary detector systems such as MICROBALL and neutron detectors allowed for the identification of well deformed rotational structures in the second well of nuclei in the direct vicinity of the doubly-magic isotope Ni
Risk of collapse in the eastern Baltic cod fishery
The eastern Baltic cod fishery, as many fisheries worldwide, is experiencing a major crisis. The combination of current environmental conditions, fishing mortality rates, and stock size indicates that this fishery is not sustainable. In order to rebuild the population and sustain the fishery in the future, it is essential to define a biologically appropriate exploitation level. In this paper, we t
Clostridium lundense sp nov., a novel anaerobic lipolytic bacterium isolated from bovine rumen
A strictly anaerobic, mesophilic, endospore-forming, lipolytic bacterium, designated strain R1(T), was isolated from bovine rumen fluid and characterized. Cells of this isolate were Gram-positive, non-motile rods that formed spherical terminal spores. The overall biochemical and physiological characteristics indicated that this strain should be placed in the genus Clostridium. The strain grew at t
Growth and assimilation of NH4+ and NO3- by Paxillus involutus in association with Betula pendula and Picea abies as affected by substrate pH
The influence of pH on the growth and assimilation of N-15-labelled ammonium and nitrate was studied in intact ectomycorrhizal systems consisting of Betula pendula Roth and Picea abies (L.) Karst. colonized with a common mycelium of Paxillus involutus (Batsch) Fr. The plants were grown together in Plexiglass observation chambers containing non-sterile peat with three different pH values, 4.0, 5.1
Gene expression analysis suggests that EBF-1 and PPAR gamma 2 induce adipogenesis of NIH-3T3 cells with similar efficiency and kinetics
Differentiation of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells into lipid-accumulating adipocytes is a physiological process induced by transcription factors in combination with hormonal stimulation. We have used Affymetrix microarrays to compare the adipogenic differentiation pathways of NIH-3T3 fibroblasts induced to undergo in vitro differentiation by ectopic expression of early B cell factor (EBF)-1 or

Left atrioventricular plane displacement but not left ventricular ejection fraction is influenced by the degree of aortic stenosis.
Abstract in UndeterminedAims: To examine how left atrioventricular plane displacement ( AVPD), a widely used measure of left ventricular (LV) function, is related to presence and degree of aortic stenosis. Methods and results: Cardiac dimensions, LV filling, left AVPD, LV ejection fraction (LVEF), and valve function were assessed by echocardiography/Doppler in 182 patients with various cardiac dis
Measurement of the He3(e,e'p)pn reaction at high missing energies and momenta
Results of the Jefferson Lab Hall A quasielastic 3He(e,ep)pn measurements are presented. These measurements were performed at fixed transferred momentum and energy, q=1502 MeV/c and =840 MeV, respectively, for missing momenta pm up to 1 GeV/c and missing energies in the continuum region, up to pion threshold; this kinematic coverage is much more extensive than that of any previous experiment. The
Energy conservation and pomeron loops in high energy evolution
We present a formalism which modifies the Mueller Dipole Model such that it incorporates energy-momentum conservation as well as important colour suppressed effects in the cascade evolution. The formalism is implemented in a Monte Carlo simulation program, and the results are compared to inclusive data from HERA and the Tevatron. We here find a generally very good agreement between our model and t
