It takes two to tango without O2: Metabolic interactions between breviate protists and bacteria in anoxia

Breviates are anaerobic protists and among the closest unicellular relatives of animals and fungi, yet their ecology and metabolism remain poorly understood. In this thesis, I investigated the distribution, metabolic potential, and bacterial interactions of breviates in low-oxygen environments. Breviates rely on bacteria both as a food source and potentially as metabolic partners. Breviates are pr

Generative Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Risks : Implications for Healthcare Security Based on Real-life Incidents

Background: The potential of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) tools, such as ChatGPT, is being increasingly explored in healthcare settings. However, the same tools also introduce significant cybersecurity risks that could compromise patient safety, data integrity, and institutional trust. This study aimed to examine real-world security breaches involving genAI and extrapolate their pote

An action plan : The Swedish healthcare pathway for adults with chronic pain

Objectives ‒ Chronic pain is a major global public-health issue. In Sweden, 20% adults report moderate to severe chronic pain, with 7% continuously seeking healthcare. Shortcomings in treatment, accessibility, and knowledge in healthcare for chronic pain have previously been reported. A generic treatment structure from primary to specialized care and rehabilitation was missing. This study aims to

A high mutual inclination system around KOI-134 revealed by transit timing variations

Few planetary systems have measured mutual inclinations, and even fewer are found to be non-coplanar. Observing the gravitational interactions between exoplanets is an effective tool to detect non-transiting companions to transiting planets. Evidence of these interactions can manifest in the light curve through transit timing variations (TTVs) and transit duration variations (TDVs). Here, through

Road Safety Culture and the Safe System : Comparing Beliefs and Behaviours in African and European Countries

The study compares national road safety culture (RSC) in three European countries—Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands—which are widely recognized as leaders in Safe System implementation and have maintained the world’s best road safety records for several years, with three African countries with poorer road safety records—Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia. The primary focus is on continental-level compariso

Accelerating biomedical discoveries in brain health through transformative neuropathology of aging and neurodegeneration

Transformative neuropathology is redefining human brain research by integrating foundational descriptive pathology with advanced methodologies. These approaches, spanning multi-omics studies and machine learning applications, will drive discovery for the identification of biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and complex disease patterns through comprehensive analyses of postmortem human brain tissue.

Triaxial deformation of odd-A Xe and Ba nuclides

The properties of odd-A Xe and Ba nuclides have been compared with calculations based on the Triaxial Rotor plus Particle model. The excitation energies of negative parity states and particularly the signature splitting of yrast states can be reproduced only by assuming triaxial deformation. While the energies of positive parity states are little sensitive to γ, B(E2; 7 21+ → 3 21+) allowed a dete

The Difficult Art of Learning from the Holocaust

En utgångspunkt är att dBoth the connections between then, present and then and the question of how scholarly history (the historical past) can interact or sometimes be replaced by other forms of historical production and dissemination (the practical past) are important components. The fundamental question is whether – and if so, how – we can learn from the atypical and multifaceted Holocaust in many respects. A starting

Rotational structures in Sn106 : A new form of band termination?

Two weakly populated rotational bands have been established in Sn106 from the Fe54 (58Ni,2p) reaction at 243 MeV. One of the bands shows evidence of termination. The result is consistent with cranked Nilsson model calculations, which predict band terminations with a smooth and gradual shape change from a prolate collective to an oblate noncollective structure.

Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model applied to high spin states in Na22,23 : Systematics of rotational isomers and band terminations in the A=20-26 region

Previously proposed high spin states in Na22,23 are compared with calculations from the cranked Nilsson model including Strutinsky renormalization. High K rotational isomers are proposed for Iπ=6- in Na22 and 11/2+, 13/2+, and possibly 15/2+ in Na23. The positive parity yrast sequences in these two nuclei are analyzed in terms of the change from collective to single particle behavior at I=9 (22Na)

Strongly coupled enhanced-deformation band in Pr131

An enhanced-deformation (ED) rotational band with unusual characteristics has been discovered in the odd-Z nucleus Pr131. The dynamical moment of inertia J(2)=(50-60)Latin small letter h with stroke2 MeV-1 and the extracted quadrupole moment Q0 = 5.5 ± 0.8 eb (β2=0.32±0.05) are comparable with other ED bands (sometimes called ''superdeformed'') in the mass A∼130 region. The two signature partners
