Autism spectrum conditions in individuals with Möbius sequence, CHARGE syndrome and oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum: diagnostic aspects
As part of multidisciplinary surveys of three Behavioural Phenotype Conditions (BPCs); Möbius sequence (Möbius), CHARGE syndrome (CHARGE) and oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum (OAV), autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) was diagnosed in 45%, 68% and 42% of the individuals, respectively. Diagnostic difficulties due to additional dysfunctions such as mental retardation (MR), impaired vision, reduced he
A comprehensive emission inventory of biogenic volatile organic compounds in Europe: improved seasonality and land-cover
Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC) emitted from vegetation are important for the formation of secondary pollutants such as ozone and secondary organic aerosols (SOA) in the atmosphere. Therefore, BVOC emission are an important input for air quality models. To model these emissions with high spatial resolution, the accuracy of the underlying vegetation inventory is crucial. We present a BVO
Lipid composition of the stratum corneum and cutaneous water loss in birds along an aridity gradient
Intercellular and covalently bound lipids within the stratum corneum (SC), the outermost layer of the epidermis, are the primary barrier to cutaneous water loss (CWL) in birds. We compared CWL and intercellular SC lipid composition in 20 species of birds from desert and mesic environments. Furthermore, we compared covalently bound lipids with CWL and intercellular lipids in the lark family (Alaudi
Giant Photoluminescence Blinking of Perovskite Nanocrystals Reveals Single-Trap Control of Luminescence.
Fluorescence super-resolution microscopy showed correlated fluctuations of photoluminescence intensity and spatial localization of individual perovskite (CH3NH3PbI3) nanocrystals of size ∼200 × 30 × 30 nm(3). The photoluminescence blinking amplitude caused by a single quencher was a hundred thousand times larger than that of a typical dye molecule at the same excitation power density. The quencher
Human immunoglobulin G levels of viruses and associated glioma risk
Few consistent etiological factors have been identified for primary brain tumors. Inverse associations to asthma and low levels of varicella-zoster virus, immunoglobulin (Ig) levels in prevalent cases have indicted a role for the immune system in the development of glioma. Because samples from prevalent cases of glioma could be influenced by treatments such as steroids and chemotherapy, we investi

Efficacy and safety of vernakalant in patients with atrial flutter: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Vernakalant is a novel, relatively atrial-selective antiarrhythmic agent for conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) to sinus rhythm. This study examined the safety and efficacy of vernakalant in converting atrial flutter (AFL) to sinus rhythm. This was a phase 2/3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Adults with AFL received either a 10 min infusion of 3.0 mg/kg vernakalant (n 39)
A palaeomagnetic and Ar-40/Ar-39 study of mafic dykes in southern Sweden: A new Early Neoproterozoic key-pole for the Baltic Shield and implications for Sveconorwegian and Grenville loops
We present the results of palaeomagnetic and Ar-40/Ar-39 studies of the Proterozoic mafic dykes in the Norrkoping and Falun areas of the southern Sweden. The primary remanence of two 939 +/- 3 Ma dykes is supported by the rigorous baked contact test. The remanence direction of two other dykes, one of which was previously U-Pb dated at 946 +/- 1 Ma is close to the reverse direction of 939 Ma dykes.

New contributions to central exclusive production of dijets in proton-(anti)proton collisions
We consider central exclusive production of gg dijets in proton-proton (proton-antiproton) collisions at LHC and Tevatron for different intermediate and final gluon polarizations. The amplitude for the process is derived within the k(perpendicular to)-factorization approach (with both the standard QCD and the Lipatov's effective three-gluon vertices) and is considered in various kinematical asympt
Cellulose Dissolution in an Alkali Based Solvent: Influence of Additives and Pretreatments
The distinction between thermodynamic and kinetics in cellulose dissolution is seldom considered in the literature. Therefore, herein an attempt to discuss this topic and illustrate our hypotheses on the basis of simple experiments was made. It is well-known that cellulose can be dissolved in a aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH/H2O) solvent at low temperature but it is here shown that such an alkalin
Cloud droplet activity changes of soot aerosol upon smog chamber ageing
Particles containing soot, or black carbon, are generally considered to contribute to global warming. However, large uncertainties remain in the net climate forcing resulting from anthropogenic emissions of black carbon (BC), to a large extent due to the fact that BC is co-emitted with gases and primary particles, both organic and inorganic, and subject to atmospheric ageing processes. In this stu
Behaviour of radiogenic Pb in zircon during ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism: an ion imaging and ion tomography case study from the Kerala Khondalite Belt, southern India
Zircon crystals from a locally charnockitized Paleoproterozoic high-K metagranite from the Kerala Khondalite Belt (KKB) of southern India have been investigated by high-spatial resolution secondary ion mass spectrometry analysis of U-Th-Pb and rare earth elements (RE), together with scanning ion imaging and scanning ion tomography (depth-profiled ion imaging). The spot analyses constrain the magma
Genital divergence in sympatric sister snails.
A pattern of greater divergence in mating traits between sister-species pairs with overlapping ranges than between allopatric species pairs is expected if reinforcement commonly contributes to speciation. Few large-scale comparative analyses have addressed this prediction, especially for genital form. Here, we show that penial morphology follows the predicted pattern in 40 robustly identified sist
Low dietary protein content alleviates motor symptoms in mice with mutant dynactin/dynein-mediated neurodegeneration.
Mutations in components of the molecular motor dynein/dynactin lead to neurodegenerative diseases of the motor system or atypical parkinsonism. These mutations are associated with prominent accumulation of vesicles involved in autophagy and lysosomal pathways, and with protein inclusions. Whether alleviating these defects would affect motor symptoms remain unknown. Here, we show that a mouse model
Hidden order in spin-liquid Gd₃Ga₅O₁₂.
Frustrated magnetic materials are promising candidates for new states of matter because lattice geometry suppresses conventional magnetic dipole order, potentially allowing "hidden" order to emerge in its place. A model of a hidden-order state at the atomic scale is difficult to deduce because microscopic probes are not directly sensitive to hidden order. Here, we develop such a model of the spin-
Outcomes 1 year after thrombus aspiration for myocardial infarction.
Routine intracoronary thrombus aspiration before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has not been proved to reduce short-term mortality. We evaluated clinical outcomes at 1 year after thrombus aspiration.
Relationship between matrix production by bronchial fibroblasts and lung function and AHR in asthma.
The reasons for enhanced deposition of extracellular matrix in the airways of asthmatic patients and the subsequent consequences on lung function are uncertain. Here, we investigated the synthesis of procollagen I and proteoglycans, the activity of various metalloproteinases (MMPs) and the production of their inhibitor TIMP-1 in biopsy-derived bronchial fibroblasts from eight patients with stable
Fluctuations in harvest of native and introduced crayfish are driven by temperature and population density in previous years
