Given their wide applicability, several sparse high-resolution spectral estimation techniques and their implementation have been examined in the recent literature. In this work, we fur- ther the topic by examining a computationally efficient im- plementation of the recent SMLA algorithms in the missing data case. The work is an extension of our implementation for the uniformly sampled case, and of

Patienter med diabetes och fotsår med ett systoliskt tåtryck <45 mmHg eller ett aThe aim of the studies presented in this thesis was to study patients with diabetes and severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in regard to outcomes of foot ulcers, factors related to outcomes, and occurrences of new ulcerations and amputations following healing of the initial ulcer. Patients with diabetes and a foot ulcer, consecutively presenting at a multidisciplinary foot centre, with a sys

The paper describes a novel method for calculating the residual gas fraction and the trapping efficiency in a 2 stroke engine. Assuming one dimensional compressible flow through the inlet and exhaust ports, the method estimates the instantaneous mass flowing in and out from the combustion chamber; later the residual gas fraction and trapping efficiency are estimated combining together the perfect

This paper presents a search for the t-channel exchange of an R-parity violating scalar top quark ((t) over tilde) in the e(+/-)mu(-/+) continuum using 2.1 fb(-1) of data collected by the ATLAS detector in root s = 7 TeV pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Data are found to be consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model backgrounds. Limits on R-parity-violating couplings at 95

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for pi(+/-), K-+/-, p, and (p) over bar in p + p collisions at root s = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). These data provide important baseline spectra for comparisons with identified particle spectra in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter

Conjugated polymer/fullerene-based solar cells are, due to their potential flexibility, cost efficiency and low weight, interesting as future alternatives to today’s silicon cells [1]. In these cells, both the dissociation of the polymer exciton into extractable charges, i.e. charges that are free and mobile, and the recombination of the free charges are expected to be crucial in order to obtain h

Patients with a life-limiting diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) or chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) need disease-specific information, ability to cope, and functioning social networks. This cohort study investigated the experiences of PAH and CTEPH patients who received information about their diagnosis, treatment, and management, in addition to coping and soc

Bracon hebetor is a larval ectoparasitoid that utilizes several pests belonging to the family Pyralidae (Lepidoptera) as hosts. In the present study, we analyzed the kairomonal response of this wasp to the male-produced sex pheromone of a host, the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella, an economically important pest of honeybees, Apis mellifera. Coupled gas chromatography-electroantennographic det

Biologically treated wastewater spiked with a mixture of 56 active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) was treated with 0-20 mg/L chlorine dioxide (ClO2) solution in laboratory-scale experiments. Wastewater effluents were collected from two wastewater treatment plants in Sweden, one with extended nitrogen removal (low COD) and one without (high COD). About one third of the tested APIs resisted degra

The thermal effects related to wearing headgear are complex and different studies have investigated single parts of this topic. This review aims at summarizing the different findings to give a complete overview on this topic as well as to suggest new perspectives. Headgear increases head insulation and therefore is mainly problematic under warm conditions, which is the focus of this review. Helmet

Background: One-pot multi-step biocatalysis is advantageous over step-by-step synthesis as it reduces the number of process operation units, leading to significant process intensification. Whole-cell biocatalysis with metabolically active cells is especially valuable since all enzymes can be co-expressed in the cell whose metabolism can be exploited for supply of co-substrates and co-factors. Quantum dots (QDs) and graphene are both promising materials for the development of new-generation optoelectronic devices. Towards this end, synergic assembly of these two building blocks is a key step but remains a challenge. Here, we show a one-step strategy for organizing QDs in a graphene matrix via interfacial self-assembly, leading to the formation of sandwiched hybrid QD-graphene nanofilms.

We found marked improvement of glucose tolerance and lower dietary energy intake in ischemic heart disease (IHD) patients after advice to follow a Paleolithic diet, as compared to a Mediterranean-like diet. We now report findings on subjective ratings of satiety at meals and data on the satiety hormone leptin and the soluble leptin receptor from the same study.

We review some aspects of the investigation of surface systems with soft X-rays. Examples are presented, showing how core level spectroscopies provide detailed information on the structure, bonding and chemistry of adsorbates and thin layers on surfaces. Core level spectroscopies employed at high brilliance synchrotron light sources allow furthermore access to electron dynamics in the attosecond d

Human bone marrow (BM) contains a rare population of nonhematopoietic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), which are of central importance for the hematopoietic microenvironment. However, the precise phenotypic definition of these cells in adult BM has not yet been reported. In this study, we show that low/negative expression of CD140a (PDGFR-α) on lin(-)/CD45(-)/CD271(+) BM cells identified a cell p

TuFT kan beskrivas som ett myWithin the Swedish research project Rescue tactics and methodology during fires in underground facilities, a simple decision support tool has been developed. The tool can, for example, aid decision makers involved in the early phase of road and rail tunnel fire risk assessments. The tool has been developed at Lund University and has been termed TuFT, which is an abbreviation for Tunnel Fire Tools.

Animals have always been an important part of the human life-world, and they stand out as significant forces in the Old Norse mythology – here they became imaginary creatures with strong characters. The relationship between animals and humans in Scandinavia from Roman Iron Age to the Viking Period is explored in the book. Real animals and fantastical creatures in Midgard became mouthpieces for hu

Depending on specific configuration and design, a variety of physical phenomena is present in fuel cells, e.g., multi-component gas flow, energy and mass transfer of chemical species in composite domains and sites. These physical phenomena are strongly affected by chemical/electrochemical reactions in nano-/micro-scale structured electrodes and electrolytes. Due to the electrochemical reactions, g

This paper should be read as addendum to Dieckmann et al. (J Theor Biol 241:370-389, 2006) and Parvinen et al. (J Math Biol 67: 509-533, 2013). Our goal is, using little more than high-school calculus, to (1) exhibit the form of the canonical equation of adaptive dynamics for classical life history problems, where the examples in Dieckmann et al.
