IMPLEMENTING NATIONAL POLICY AND LOCAL PLANNING - Swedish wind power development and third generation mobile phone system as cases

The paper analyses the permit process for Swedish wind power development in terms of two paradigms of spatial planning and environmental management, and makes a comparison with the Swedish 3G mobile phone infrastructure development. Swedish Parliament has set a goal of 10 TWh annually wind electricity for 2015, and the Swedish Energy Agency has proposed 30 TWh from wind power by 2020. The present

Empirical Essays on Health and Human Capital

This thesis includes one introductory chapter and three independent papers. The first paper adds to the broad literature regarding the effect of alcohol consumption on educational attainment. Given that no consensus exists in the literature regarding this paper adds to the literature by analyzing the effect of alcohol consumption on educational attainment using a life cycle approach. In addition

Anatomical, neurochemical and behavioural consequences of immunotoxin lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system.

The cholinergic hypothesis of geriatric memory dysfunction suggests that the learning and memory deficits representing the cardinal symptoms of dementia in the aged and in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease may be attributable to a decline in the function of the cholinergic projection systems of the basal forebrain. Although many studies have addressed the issue of a causal relationship b

Common evolutionary origin of alpha 2-macroglobulin and complement components C3 and C4

A comparison of the sequence of the subunit of human alpha 2-macroglobulin (alpha 2M; 1451 amino acid residues) with that of murine complement component pro-C3 (1639 amino acid residues) reveals eight extended regions of sequence similarity. These regions contain between 19% and 31% identically placed residues and account for 75% and 67%, respectively, of the polypeptide chains of alpha 2M and pro

Exclusive final states in diffractive excitation

In this paper we describe a formalism for generating exclusive final states in diffractive excitation, based on the optical analogy where diffraction is fully determined by the absorption into inelastic channels. The formalism is based on the Good--Walker formalism for diffractive excitation, and it is assumed that the virtual parton cascades represent the diffractive eigenstates defined by a defi

Glass, alcohol and power in Roman Iron Age Scotland - a study of the Roman vessel glass from non-Roman/native sites in north Northumberland and Scotland

Popular Abstract in Swedish Denna avhandling bygger på ett studium av romerska glaskärl funna på icke-romerska/inhemska fyndorter — huvudsakligen tillhörande den romerska järnåldern (0–400 e.Kr.) — bortom Hadrianus mur i norra Britannien. Romerska glaskärl har påträffats på inalles 60 fyndorter, varav en stor del utgörs av bosättningar av skilda slag, och endast en liten del härrör från gravar. SoThis thesis is based on a study of Roman glass vessels found on non-Roman/native sites - chiefly of Roman Iron Age date (AD 0-400) - beyond Hadrian’s Wall in northern Britain. Roman glass vessels have been discovered on 60 sites in total, the majority of which are settlements of various types, and only a minor part are graves. As a consequence of this, the greater part of the material is strongly

The effect of the tailbiting restriction on feedback encoders

It is shown that, for short and moderate relative tailbiting lengths and high signal-to-noise ratios, systematic feedback encoders have better bit error performance than nonsystematic feedforward encoders. Conditions for when tailbiting will fail are given and it is described how the encoder starting state can be obtained for feedback encoders in both controller and observer canonical form

Wallanderland.
