This study is based on the crime preventive initiative by the Western Copenhagen Police, which aims at reducing domestic violence through preventive conversations. This thesis explores the narratives of male perpetrators of either Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or stalking who have been contacted through this initiative. Two data types are used: recorded conversations between the police and perpe

Moral Disengagement and Fear of Retaliation: Why Adolescents Choose to be Passive Bystanders to School Bullying

This study examines the potential overlap between fear of retaliation and moral disengagement as explanations for peer bystander inaction in school bullying. Although typically seen as distinct barriers to peer intervention, the study investigates whether fear of retaliation can function as a moral disengagement mechanism, and whether fear-based and disengagement-based justifications are empirical

NMR assignment of PPARγ complexed with rosiglitazone using manual and automatic assignment tools

The long-term aim was to better understand the structure and dynamics of the complex, and therefore how the transcription factor func- tions in vivo. The protein LBD was expressed in E. coli and complexed with rosiglitazone, and backbon

Trade in Times of Transition: An Empirical Analysis of the Effects of the USMCA and COVID-19 on Canadian-U.S. and Intra-Canadian Trade

This thesis investigates the effects of the implementation of the USMCA and the COVID-19 pandemic on Canadian trade patterns at both the international level with the United States and the domestic level between provinces. Using a panel gravity model and bilateral trade data from 2016 to 2023, the study analyses how each of these developments influenced intra-Canadian and cross border trade flows.

The Art of Allocation – Developing a Decision Support Framework for Country-Level Inventory Allocation within Médecins Sans Frontières’ Supply Chain

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) does currently not have dedicated decision-making support for their in-country inventory allocation and is exploring how such decision support framework could be designed to enhance their supply chain operations. The purpose of this thesis is thus to develop a structured framework for country-level inventory allocation decision-making at MSF.To fulfil the purpose t

Using Hyperspectral Imaging for the Detection of Malaria

The accurate diagnosis of malaria is crucial for ensuring an effective treatment and combating the developing drug resistance of the parasite. The standard diagnostic method, consisting of light microscopy in combination with Giemsa-staining, requires manual examination through a trained clinician. This is time-consuming and prone to human error. While emerging diagnostic innovations can overcome

Framing Sustainability on Social Media: A Comparative Analysis of Inside-Out and Oustide-In Patagonia´s Instagram and TikTok digital content

The growing demand for corporate transparency and sustainability has intensified the need for effective sustainability reporting, especially in industries like fashion, which face significant environmental and social challenges. This study examines how Patagonia, a leader in sustainable fashion, applies the Double Materiality (DM) framework in its social media communications, focusing on Instagram

How to turn Sustainability into Profit

The aim of this study is to identify what the relationship between ESG scores and capital structure is, and whether it differs depending on the selected capital structure measure. Building on previous literature on sustainability strategies and capital structure, this paper revises the current state of the interconnectivity between ESG and financing decisions. By employing a quantitative study wit

BAYESIAN OPTIMIZATION OF A DYNAMIC VEGETATION MODEL

In this thesis, we apply Bayesian Optimization to estimate the parameters of the LPJ-GUESS dynamic vegetation model with a focus on Methane (CH4) emissions in the Siikaneva wetland in Finland. Previous research has used other statistical methods, such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), to estimate the LPJ-GUESS model parameters, achieving a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.023. Our objective is

Constructing Legitimacy: A Discourse Analysis of Moral Brand Communication

This thesis analyzes how moral brands discursively construct legitimacy and investigates the role of morality in legitimizing brand legitimacy claims and actions. By applying legitimacy theory, the study explores how Patagonia and TOMS Shoes legitimate their moral claims and actions based on discursive legitimation analysis (DLA). Findings showed the frequent and unexpected use of authorization, s

Integration of multi-source data with machine learning for agricultural drought monitoring in Morocco

Drought is one of the most costly disasters worldwide. The complexity of nonlinear relationships between drought variables and drought severity during drought events poses significant challenges for accurate drought monitoring and prediction. Drought research in Morocco has been dominated by linear and conventional statistical methods, such as the pearson correlation. Although some earlier researc

LDMX HCal prototype data analysis

The Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) is a planned missing momentum and energy experiment at SLAC, the purpose of which is to produce dark matter through production at an accelerator. A key theoretical process making this possible is called "dark bremsstrahlung," where an electron scattering off a nucleus produces a dark photon instead of a Standard Model photon. LDMX aims to detect da

Fostering a Culture of Sustainability: The contribution of internal sustainability communication in promoting sustainable development – a case study

A profound transformation toward sustainability is reshaping society. In every industry, organizations increasingly depend on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) standards as crucial bench- marks to guide their operations. Making sustainability a core priority in corporate operations also involves integrating it into corporate communications. Internal com

Scale-Down Studies of Protein Effects at the Gas-Liquid Interface

The present study investigated the kinetic stability and activity of water-forming NAD(P)H oxidase (NOX) in a Liebig-type bubble column reactor, simulating industrial-scale conditions at laboratory scale.
