We study the stability of oscillation in two different multi-mode harmonic oscillators by means of Barkhausen’s criterion, involving a minimum of mathematical machinery in favor of a more intuitive, circuit-based approach. The results of the theoretical analysis match very closely those obtained through transient simulations, confirming occasionally surprising outcomes of the latter.

The recurrence rebuild and retrieval method (R3M) is proposed in this paper to accelerate the electromagnetic (EM) validations of large-scale digital coding metasurfaces (DCMs). R3M aims to accelerate the EM validations of DCMs with varied codebooks, which involves the analysis of a group of similar but not identical structures. The method transforms general DCMs to rigorously periodic arrays by r

The emergence of microbial antibiotic resistance is a central threat to global health, food security, and development. It has been shown that heavy metal pollution can give rise to microbial resistance to antibiotics, but how wide-spread this phenomenon is remains an open question that urgently needs filling to enable appropriate environmental risk assessments. Here, we determined whether long-ter

The human macula is a highly specialized retinal region with pit-like morphology and rich in cones. How Müller cells, the principal glial cell type in the retina, are adapted to this environment is still poorly understood. We compared proteomic data from cone- and rod-rich retinae from human and mice and identified different expression profiles of cone- and rod-associated Müller cells that converg

Focusing on the debates on ‘due impartiality’ provided to far-right leaders in Swedish media, this article uses a Lacanian approach to address the relationship between the practices of normalisation of far-right discourses and fantasies, and the evolution of emotional governance at the interstice of old (i.e. traditional) and new (e.g. social media) media. Emotional governance refers to the everyd

Introduction: Few, if any, prior studies have considered whether undetermined intent (UDI) deaths and suicide deaths differ with respect to genetic liability for suicidal behavior or psychopathology. Methods: The authors used Swedish national registry data to identify suicide deaths (N = 31,835) and UDI deaths (N = 10,623); sociodemographic covariates; and registrations for psychopathology. Family

Background: SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled aerosols is considered an important contributor to the spread of COVID-19. However, characterizing the size distribution of virus-containing aerosol particles has been challenging as high concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled air is mainly present close to symptom onset. We present a case study of a person with COVID-19 who was able to participate in extensive m

Introduction: During airway infection, upregulation of proinflammatory cytokines and subsequent immune cell recruitment is essential to mitigate bacterial infection. Conversely, during prolonged and non-resolving airway inflammation, neutrophils contribute to tissue damage and remodeling. This occurs during diseases including cystic fibrosis (CF) and COPD where bacterial pathogens, not least Pseud

To increase the understanding of the role of carbide precipitates on the hydrogen embrittlement of martensiticsteels, we have performed a density functional theory study on the solution energies and energy barriers forhydrogen diffusion in orthorhombic M7C3 (M = Cr, Mn, Fe). Hydrogen can easily diffuse into the lattice andcause internal stresses or bond weakening, which may promote reduced ductili

While recent years have seen a substantial increase of studies investigating vocal iconicity in the lexicon of spoken languages, its presence in grammatical structures is poorly understood. This study investigates the presence of vocal iconicity in nominal classification systems by collecting nominal classification devices from the two main system types: 210 non-agreeing languages (126 families) a
