The emission reductions of the European steel industry which account for 5 of CO2 emissions within the European Union (EU), have thus far been limited in part due to the free allocation under the Emissions Trading System (ETS). Legislation has been introduced, aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the ETS by phasing out the free allocation while simultaneously protecting the European steel indu

The flame dynamics in a novel, ultra-lean non-premixed model gas turbine (GT) burner flame was numerically studied using large eddy simulation (LES) coupled with probability density function (PDF) based on the Euler stochastic field (ESF) method. One non-reacting case and three reacting cases with global equivalence ratio ϕglob=1.0,0.6,0.3 were simulated. Comparison of mean flow fields and OH dist

To limit global warming to 1.5°C, concerted efforts to drastically reduce GHG emissions by 2030 are needed. Lund municipality has ambitious climate goals for 2030, however, high emissions from transport and especially private car use endanger their achievement. Building on transition management, this thesis aimed at supporting Lund’s climate goals by developing a knowledge base for the implementat

Tolv prover har också tagits för ålFourteen somewhat overlapping 1-m cores, forming a total sequence of about 10.90 metres, were retrieved from Taniente Palet bog on Isla de los Estados, Argentina. The cores were described and correlated both visually and by measuring magnetic susceptibility and loss on ignition. Twelve samples were also taken for radiocarbon dating. The results were then interpreted and compared with those from ot

The Eurasian spruce bark beetle, Ips typographus, is one of the major forest insect pests in Europe, capable of mass-attacking and killing mature Norway spruce trees. The initiation and development of a new generation are strongly controlled by temperature and a warmer climate may affect the number of generations that is produced per year and hence the outbreak dynamics. Experimental knowledge reg

Aims: Guidelines for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention cite high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as a major risk factor and recommend LDL-C goals for various risk groups. Lifestyle changes are advised as first-line treatment for patients with high cholesterol, and statins are recommended in high-risk patients. The From The Heart study investigated current practice for t

Introduction The coefficient of fat absorption (CFA) quantifies fat that remains in stool after digestion and is not a direct measure of lipolysis. CFA has been used to assess treatment of pancreatic insufficiency but does not correlate with pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy dose. We explored use of an omega-3 substrate absorption challenge test as a sensitive test of lipolysis and absorption.

Differences in national legislations can affect the international competitiveness of an industry. For example, stringent EU regulations on animal welfare and environmental protection are often said to be a cost disadvantage for EU producers competing on the global market. However, in recent years, powerful retailers and food processors have started to impose requirements on downstream producers th

In recent decades, changes in vegetation phenology have exhibited a tight coupling with global warming. Mountain ecosystems are particularly susceptible to climate change, with high elevations warming faster than lower areas. The inconsistent rate of temperature change across elevations may lead to synchronization of phenological patterns, reducing the differences in phenology timing between high

By exploring the Russian Global Education Program as a case of outward student mobility policy created through and backed by law, the author of this thesis analyses the impact of the legal dimension of said program on students’ return and employment decisions from the viewpoint of the socio-legal theory and methodology developed by Leon Petrazycki (1867-1931). Based on the analysis conducted herei

The concepts of ‘Old School’ and ‘New School’, peculiar to hip-hop's lexicon, have long been framed by theories of subculture heavily drawing on a binary scale of authenticity and inauthenticity. This dichotomy is widely used to characterize a discursive conflict between the authentic aspects of hip-hop music and its excessively commercialized versions undermining hip-hop’s counter-hegemonic p

The Chinese-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) started operation in January 2016 in the context of severe criticism from the U.S. government and transnational civil society organizations, but with the support from major Asian and European states. The establishment of this new global governance institution (GGI) raises intriguing questions concerning legitimacy and (de)legitimation. Wh
