We use simulations to investigate the effect of sampling frequency on common dependent variables in eye-tracking. We identify two large groups of measures that behave differently, but consistently. The effect of sampling frequency on these two groups of measures are explored and simulations are performed to estimate how much data are required to overcome the uncertainty of a limited sampling frequ

This book is written by and for researchers who are still in that part of their careers where they are actively using the eye-tracker as a tool; those who have to deal with the technology, the signals, the filters, the algorithms, the experimental design, the programming of stimulus presentation, instructions to participants, working the varying tools for data analysis, and of course, worrying abo

Whereas the change of material properties due to change in the temperature can easily be realized, the coupling of the different energy sources is less obvious at a first glance. However, taking advantage of thermodynamics, the different couplings will almost automatically be taken care of. Therefore, when considering thermoplasticity, it is advantageous to make full use of thermodynamics, both wh

A previously proposed model for non-stationary signals is extended in this contribution. The model consists of mul- tiple time-translated locally stationary processes. The opti- mal Ambiguity kernel for the process in mean-square-error sense is computed analytically and is used to estimate the time-frequency distribution. The performance of the kernel is compared with other commonly used kernels.

Abstract in UndeterminedAccurately modelling the dynamic behaviour of multi-storey buildings in wood requires the geometry involved to be represented in great detail, resulting in systems having many millions of degrees of freedom. Consequently, there is a need for model order reduction and the methodology of substructure modelling is employed here to create reduced models for analysis of low-freq

This study focuses on the effect of the semantics of placement verbs on placement event representations. Specifically, it explores to what extent the semantic properties of habitually used verbs guide attention to certain types of spatial information. French, which typically uses a general placement verb (mettre, 'put'), is contrasted with Dutch, which uses a set of fine-grained (semi-)obligatory

The presence of grain boundaries in the microstructure of metallic materials has a major influence on the material behavior and not least on macroscopic material properties. The grain boundaries pose obstacles to slip deformation by preventing dislocation motion, resulting in localized dislocation storage and heterogeneous deformation fields within the grains. In the present contribution, the deve
