Geochemical Development of Proterozoic Granites in the SW Baltic Shield

The plutonic rocks in the Western Segment of the Southwestern Swedish Gneiss Complex show a distinct geochemical evolution. The 1.6 Ga Åmål granitoids and Slottsbron migmatites are a quartz dioritic to granodioritic, calc-alkaline rock suite with smooth, but somewhat fractionated, REE and other trace-element patterns. The younger microcline granites of the 1.5 Ga and 1.3 Ga generations are evolved

Subjective memory complaints : Relations to objective memory function, gender, personality, affective status and stress

Många aThe overall aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding of patients with subjective memory complaints. The thesis is based on three empirical studies examining middle-aged and young old (< 70 years) non-demented patients assessed at a memory clinic. In the first study the personality characteristics of the patients were compared with a Swedish normative sample. The patients scored higher o

Rate Limiting Factors For Protein Folding.

This thesis describes factors that are rate limiting for the folding of two small proteins, U1A and CI2 which fold without accumulating intermediates. The [GdnHCl] dependencies of the unfolding- and refolding kinetics of U1A display downward curvatures. However, as the curvatures are precisely matched and no indications of formation of partially structured intermediates are seen, the fol

The Design of an Energy Efficient Highly Glazed Office Building

Many modern office buildings have highly glazed facades. Their energy efficiency and indoor climate is, however, being questioned. Therefore, when a modern office building (new construction) with larger glazing areas was planned, an investigation was carried out to determine the possibilities to: - efficiently use the increased access to daylight and thereby reduce the use of electricity for light

Ritual Time and Space: A Liminal Age and Religious Consciousness

The article discusses if it is possible to bring Victor Turner’s work on liminality and ritual together with Roy Rappaport’s thought-provoking ritual theory and approach the contemporary ecological crisis in new ways. Specifically, it examine if we creatively can employ Turner’s concept of liminality and his understanding of a liminal passage as a metaphorical vision of re-embedding humanity withi

Sesquiterpene synthases in Artemisia annua: Cloning, Expression, and Characterisation of the Recombinant Enzymes

Artemisia annua, produces a compound used as a drug against multi-drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite causing malaria. The compound, artemisinin, is a sesquiterpene and is an essential component for the production of artemisinin drugs against malaria. In a first critical step of the biosynthes

Polysemy or generality? Mu

This chapter proposes a conception of lexical meaning as use-potential, in contrast to prevailing atomistic and reificational views. The issues are illustrated on the example of spatial expressions, pre-eminently prepositions. It is argued that the dichotomy between polysemy and semantic generality is a false one, with expressions occupying points on a continuum from full homonymy to full monosemy
