Crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction of Trypanosoma cruzi dUTPase

Crystals of Trypanosoma cruzi dUTPase have been grown. Two different morphologies are observed, depending on the molecular weight of the PEG used as precipitating agent in the mother liquor, both having a hexagonal unit cell with similar dimensions. Complete X-ray diffraction data have been collected to low resolution for one of the forms. The space group is P6322, with unit-cell dimensions a = 13

Inverse structural modification using constraints

In a structural modification problem the mass and stiffness matrices are modified to obtain a desired spectrum. In this paper, this is done by imposing constraints on the structure. The undamped natural vibrations of a constrained linear structure are calculated by solving a generalized eigenvalue problem derived from the equations of motion for the constrained system involving Lagrangian multipli

Evaluation of malignancy in ring enhancing brain lesions on CT by thallium-201 SPECT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate patients with cystic enhancing lesions on CT and to determine whether thallium-201 (201Tl) SPECT adds to further preoperative information in differential diagnosis between gliomas and abscesses. METHODS: Twenty one patients with cystic ring enhancing CT findings were studied and uptake indices were compared with CT enhancement volumes, histopathology, and survival times.

I fokus är elever med hörselnedsättning och utvecklingsstörning, vilken är en liten, unik och outforskad elevgrupp, men också Pupils with impaired hearing and moderate to severe learning difficulties usually go to special schools for the severely learning disabled. Few studies have been conducted on the interpersonal communication among these pupils. The all-embracing aim of this study is to look closer into the communication that takes place during the school day between children and adults, in cases where Sign Language

Environmental influence on gene expression and recovery from cerebral ischemia

An emerging concept in neurobiology is that the adult brain retains a capacity for plasticity and functional reorganization throughout the life span. Experimental data from electrophysiological, morphological and behavioral studies have documented experience dependent plasticity in the intact and injured adult brain. Neuroimaging clinical studies indicate altered post stroke functional activation

Pulsating Combustion - Combustion Characteristics and Reduction of Emissions

In the search for high efficiency combustion systems pulsating combustion has been identified as one of the technologies that potentially can meet the objectives of clean combustion and good fuel economy.Pulsating combustion offers low emissions of pollutants, high heat transfer and efficient combustion. Although it is an old technology, the interest in pulsating combustion has been renewed in rec

Hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score (HOOS) - validity and responsiveness in total hip replacement.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to evaluate if physical functions usually associated with a younger population were of importance for an older population, and to construct an outcome measure for hip osteoarthritis with improved responsiveness compared to the Western Ontario McMaster osteoarthritis score (WOMAC LK 3.0). METHODS: A 40 item questionnaire (hip disability and osteoarthritis outcom

Gröbner Basis Methods for Minimal Problems in Computer Vision

A method is presented for building solvers for classes of multivariate polynomial equations. The method is based on solving an analogous template problem over a finite field, and then using the elimination order established for this problem for the original class of problems. A strength of this method is that this permits pivoting in the elimination. Solvers for several minimal problems in

Helicobacter pylori and its Association with Gastric and Oesophageal Carcinomas

Hos flertalet sker infektionen i barndoHelicobacter pylori is one of the most common infections in man. The infection is often acquired during childhood and usually results in a chronic life-long inflammation in the gastric mucosa. The aim of our studies was to investigate the association between H. pylori seropositivity and the development of gastric and oesophageal carcinomas. Nested case-control studies were performed in the Malmö P

Fatigue of Asphalt Mixes - Theory of Viscoelasticity and Continuum Damage Mechanics Applied to Uniaxial Fatigue Data from Laboratory Tests

Fatigue cracking due to traffic loading, in combination with permanent deformation (rutting), thermal cracking, irregularities, frost heave and reflective cracking are some of the major criteria used when designing an asphalt concrete pavement. The objective of this Ph.D. project is to eva

Muslim Rights and Plights. The Religious Liberty Situation of a Minority in Sweden

The Muslim minority has grown considerably in recent decades as a consequence of labour and refugee immigration of a large scale, which has caused a change in Swedish society from an etnically, culturally and religously homogeneous situation to one of a significant heterogeneity. Sweden's way from unity

OSCILLO-oscillating air mattress in neonatal care of very preterm babies

In this pilot study a new device for respiratory stimulation with undulating oscillations and high frequency vibrations via an air mattress was tested as an additional therapy in 12 preterm infants with recurrent apnoeic episodes. The mean birthweight of the study population was 1760 g and gestational age 31.1 weeks. it was shown that an oscillating air mattress is an effective additional mode of

Mucosal T lymphocyte numbers are selectively reduced in integrin alpha E (CD103)-deficient mice

The mucosal lymphocyte integrin alpha E(CD103)beta 7 is thought to be important for intraepithelial lymphocyte (IEL) localization or function. We cloned the murine integrin gene encoding alpha E, localized it to chromosome 11, and generated integrin alpha E-deficient mice. In alpha E-/- mice, intestinal and vaginal IEL numbers were reduced, consistent with the known binding of alpha E beta 7 to E-
