Objectives. Hypothermia protects the myocardium from oxidative injury during ischemic stress and reperfusion. We have previously shown that topical negative pressure (TNP) of -50 mmHg significantly increases microvascular blood flow in the underlying myocardium in normal, ischemic, and reperfused porcine myocardium. The present study was designed to elucidate the effect of TNP between -50 mmHg and

Vertigo and dizziness are frequent symptoms among patients in primary health care. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is one common cause of dizziness with, for the patient, alarming symptoms. It is relatively easy to diagnose, with manouvertreatment or habituation-exercises as effective treatments. The treatment with either Semont or Epley manoeuvres is so effective that it often appears

Drugs of abuse testing is used in various areas of society for detection and follow-up of drug use. In routine laboratory drug testing, immunoassays are employed for initial screening of specimens to indicate the presence of drugs. To confirm a positive screening test, a secondary analysis by mass spectrometry is performed. The »cut-off« is the pre-defined concentration threshold of a drug or drug

BACKGROUND: Severe meningitis may compromise cerebral perfusion through increases in intracranial pressure (ICP) and through hypovolemia caused by a general inflammation with systemic plasma leakage. From its antiaggregative/antiadhesive and permeability-reducing properties, prostacyclin (PGI2) is a potential adjuvant treatment in meningitis, but previously published data have been ambiguous. The

In this paper we derive and evaluate by receiver tests a method for pruning tree representations of MIMO signals. The efficiency of the method is compared to that of standard tree pruning used for sphere decoders for several different MIMO system setups. The outcome is that savings up to 50\% compared to the standard sphere decoder are possible.

Abnormal blood velocity in the ductus venosus is more frequently detected than pulsations in the umbilical vein, but both are considered indicators of fetal compromise. The aim of this study was to investigate blood flow patterns in the ductus venosus and the association between individual blood velocity ratios and pulsations in the umbilical vein and perinatal outcome.
