Alternative production process for electric machine windings

The development of production methods, research on material engineering and analysis tools for energy conversion processes establish a powerful design environment for any unconventional electromagnetic or electromechanical device. The design for manufacturability becomes the one of the main goals of the design apart from cost and performance improvement. The main focus of this paper lies on the de

On Axioms Underlying Use of Reserve Price

This paper establishes reserve price as an ethical necessity contrary to its popular interpretation as an instrument of revenue maximization. It provides an axiomatic justification to reserve pricing at Vickrey auction in single as well as multiple objects settings. In particular, it provides a topological interpretation of a reserve price as the infimum of the set of non-negative real numbers sat

Magic, Culture and The New Economy

What happens when economies 'heat up'? This book looks at the 1990s, years of intense economic experimentation, when buzz words such as 'network society', 'the experience economy', 'creative cities' and 'glocalization' were everywhere. A fascinating perspective on 'The New Economy' emerges as the authors explore the worlds of coolhunters, biotech brokers, career coaches, software entrepreneurs and

Automated video analysis as a tool for analysing road user behaviour

At Lund University an automated video analysis system is being developed that can be applied for studying the behaviour of road users in complex traffic environments. It is stressed that system must be capable of handling all the categories of road users, i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Common problems like detection and tracking of moving objects, occlusion by foreground objects, ground-

MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding

Traditional efforts in standardizing video coding used to involve a lengthy process that resulted in large monolithic standards and reference codes. This approach has become increasingly ill-suited to the dynamics and the fast changing needs of the video coding community. Most importantly, there used to be no principled approach to leveraging the significant commonalities between the different cod

Hydrogen, an Energy Carrier of the Future

The climate is changing, something that many scientists correlate to increased emissions of greenhouse gases. The effluent that is considered to have the highest impact on global warming is carbon dioxide, when effect and quantity are taken into account. Most projections however, show that the effect is reversible if the amount of carbon dioxide emissions discharged to the atmosphere is decreased.

Triaxial shape induced by couplings between equatorial orbitals

The observed signature splitting at high spin in the odd-odd isotopes Pr126-132 and its description in cranking calculations suggest that Pr-126 (Z=59,N=67) is triaxially deformed at intermediate values. The triaxial shape is explained as caused by specific couplings between the orbitals. These couplings are active for N=67 but not for N=69.

Ecological effects of pesticides in freshwater model ecosystems

De kan driIn this thesis I have investigated the effects of pesticide exposure on the ecosystem level using various types of experimental ecosystems, i.e. microcosms. The direct effect of exposure to cyperemthrin, a pyretroid insecticide, was a rapid decrease of crustancean zooplankton in enclosures in a lake. In the exposed enclosures the biomass of algae, heterotrophic nanoflagellates, ciliates and bacter

ISA 95 - how and where can it be applied?

Many of you have certainly heard about the ISA 95 standard, and you know that it treats the subject of how Enterprise systems should be integrated with manufacturing and control systems, but do you know how and where it can be applied?Almost anyone, in some way connected to the control, automation and manufacturing operations field can benefit from knowing its content; vendors, end-users as well a
