Satisfaction with Daily Occupations: a tool for client evaluation in mental health care

Research findings suggest that in order to clarify the relationship between occupation and health, occupation needs to be framed in several different ways. One facet of occupation is satisfaction with daily occupations, assessed using the Satisfaction with Daily Occupations (SDO) instrument. The purpose was to investigate some of the SDO's psychometric properties when applied on people with persis

No difference in isozyme banding patterns between Plagiochila porelloides and P. norvegica

Material of the recently described endemic liverwort Plagiochila norvegica was collected from the type locality in Norway and tested against the widespread P. porelloides for differences in isozyme banding patterns. No difference was found at any of 16 putative loci. A limited sample of P. asplenioides, which was included as an outgroup, differed at five loci.

Low incidence of brain death and organ donation in Sweden. Analyses of a six-year prospective registration of all deceased patients in intensive units in Southern Sweden

Sweden is among those countries in Europe that have the lowest number of organ donors per million population (PMP). Because of the low numbers of actual donors, it is important to identify the total number of potential donors. Thus, a prospective registration of all deceased patients at all intensive care units was introduced in the Southern Healthcare Region of Sweden, which has a population of 1

CD11b(+)/Gr-1(+) immature myeloid cells mediate suppression of T cells in mice bearing tumors of IL-1 beta-secreting cells

Tumor cells secreting IL-1 beta are invasive and metastatic, more than the parental line or control mock-transfected cells, and concomitantly induce in mice general immune suppression of T cell responses. Suppression strongly correlates with accumulation in the peripheral blood and spleen of CD11b(+)/Gr-1(+) immature myeloid cells and hematological alterations, such as splenomegaly, leukocytosis,

Determinants of force rise time during isometric contraction of frog muscle fibres

Force-velocity (F-V) relationships were determined for single frog muscle fibres during the rise of tetanic contraction. F-V curves obtained using isotonic shortening early in a tetanic contraction were different from those obtained at equivalent times with isovelocity shortening, apparently because changing activation early in the contraction leads, in isovelocity experiments, to changing force a

Behandling med anti-TNF-alfa- effektivt komplement vid spondylartropati

Nine patients with spondylarthropathy (SpA) (6 with ankylosing spondylitis and 3 with psoriatic arthritis) who had not responded properly to conventional DMARD therapy were treated with 3 infusions (at 0, 2 and 6 weeks) of the TNF alpha inhibitor infliximab (3 mg/kg), in combination with methotrexate. To measure the effect of treatment, patients were evaluated before as well as 8 and 12 weeks afte

Formate dehydrogenase-modified carbon paste electrodes for amperometric detection of formate

A simple and inexpensive amperometric biosensor for formate detection was obtained by immobilization of for-mate dehydrogenase (FDH) on graphite powder, modified with a new phenothiazine derivative (DDDP; 16H, 18H-dibenzo[c,l]-7,9-dithia-16,18-diazapentacene). Two different enzyme environments were used: FDH was adsorbed on DDDP-modified graphite powder in the presence of polyethylenimine (PEI) as

Church-state separation Swedish-Style

A more than 40-year-long process came to an end when relations between the Church of Sweden and the state were formally changed in the year 2000. Social Democrats and Liberals had taken the initiative in the 1950s. Several proposals for disestablishment were put forward in the 1970s, but none of them. achieve political consensus. In addition, the representatives for all the political parties on th

Serial digital autoradiography with a silicon strip detector as a high resolution imaging modality for TRT Dosimetry

This study aims to investigate the possibility of implementing serial autoradiography using a silicon strip detector as an imaging modality in pre-clinical radionuclide therapy research, in order to study the effect of non-uniform uptake on absorbed dose distribution and biological response. Tumor tissues expressing CD20 (B-cell lymphoma) or carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA; colorectal cancer) were e

Inclusive production of D+, D-0, D-s(+) and D*(+) mesons in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Inclusive production cross sections are measured in deep inelastic scattering at HERA for meson states composed of a charm quark and a light antiquark or the charge conjugate. The measurements cover the kinematic region of photon virtuality 2 < Q(2) < 100 GeV2, inelasticity 0.05 < y < 0.7, D meson transverse momenta p(t)( D) greater than or equal to 2.5 GeV and pseudorapidity |eta( D)| less than o

Applications and Extensions of Reference Attributed Grammars

Programming languages are the main tools used to describe models of the real world and algorithms which manipulate these models. Over time much effort has been devoted to the task of making programming languages more high-level by enhancing their expressiveness, bringing it closer to the way the programmer thinks and reasons. The development of object-oriented programming languages is one importan

Carbon sequestration rates in organic layers of boreal and temperate forest soils - Sweden as a case study

Aim The aim of this work was to estimate C sequestration rates in the organic matter layer in Swedish forests. Location The region encompassed the forested area (23 x 10(6) ha) of Sweden ranging from about 55degrees N to 69degrees N. Methods We used the concept of limit values to estimate recalcitrant litter remains, and combined it with amount of litter fall. Four groups of tree species were iden

Alternative use of chromatic and achromatic cues in a hawkmoth

The diurnal hummingbird hawkmoth Macroglossum stellatarum can learn the achromatic (intensity-related) and the chromatic (wavelength-related) aspect of a spectral colour. Free-flying moths learn to discriminate two colours differing in the chromatic aspect of colour fast and with high precision. In contrast, they learn the discrimination of two stimuli differing in the achromatic aspect more slowl

Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensing of Lipid-Membrane-Mediated Biorecognition Events

Supported phospholipid bilayers (SPBs) have emerged as important model systems for studies of the natural cell membrane and its components, which are essential for the integrity and function of cells in all living organisms, and also constitute common targets for therapeutic drugs and in disease diagnosis. However, the preferential occurrence of spontaneous SPB formation on silicon-based substrate

Effect of cold exposure (-15 degrees C) and salbutamol treatment on physical performance in elite nonasthmatic cross-country skiers

The effects of whole-body exposure to ambient temperatures of -15 degrees C and 23 degrees C on selected performance-related physiological variables were investigated in elite nonasthmatic cross-country skiers. At an ambient temperature of -15 degrees C we also studied the effects of the selective beta2-adrenergic agonist Salbutamol (0.4 mg x 3) which was administered 10 min before the exercise te
