The constitutive power of maps in the Arctic

Kartor används, cirkuleras och erkänns och har därmed konsekvenser för hur människor uppfattar världen. Kartor förmedlar politiskt meningsskapande och sätter ramar för vilka politiska alternativ som får komma till tals eller som tystas ned. Till skillnad från dominerande tillvägagångssätt för att studera makten hos kartor, som betraktar kartors politiska inflytande utifrån kartproducentens avsikteAs maps are widely used, circulated, and recognised, they have consequences for how people view and understand the world. They mediate political meaning-making and frame the conditions for political alternatives to emerge or to be silenced. In contrast to dominant approaches to the study of the power of maps that consider their political influence on the basis of the intentions of the map-maker, t

Fairness conceptions and self-determined mitigation ambition under the Paris Agreement : Is there a relationship?

This paper investigates the empirical relationship between countries’ expressed concerns with fairness and the ambition levels in their pledged contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement, asking the following questions: 1) Are the NDCs of countries who express the most concern with fairness more or less ambitious than those of other countries? 2) Does the relationship between fairness and ambitio

Dimethylguanidino Valerate : A Lifestyle-Related Metabolite Associated With Future Coronary Artery Disease and Cardiovascular Mortality

Background Identification of lifestyle modifiable metabolic pathways related to cardiometabolic disease risk is essential for improvement of primary prevention in susceptible individuals. It was recently shown that plasma dimethylguanidino valerate (DMGV) levels are associated with incident type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our aims were to investigate whether plasma DMGV is related to risk of future coro

Soft resummation and hard evolution : Renormalization group methods in effective theories and multi scalar models

Localization and Regulation of Polymeric Ig Receptor in Healthy and Diseased Human Kidney

The polymeric Ig receptor (PIgR) constitutes an important part of the immune system by mediating transcytosis of dimeric IgA into mucosal fluids. Although well studied in organs such as the intestine, the regulation and localization of PIgR in human kidney are incompletely characterized. Herein, using immunohistochemistry, we show that in healthy human kidneys, PIgR is expressed by the progenitor-

The wealth of the Swedish peasant farmer class (1750-1900) : Composition and distribution

Using about 1,730 probate inventories, this article studies the wealth of peasant farmers in Sweden for the years 1750, 1800, 1850 and 1900. Average wealth grew rapidly, tripling over the nineteenth century, but it did not grow equally: the Gini coefficient for the farmers' wealth grew from 0.46 in 1750 to 0.73 in 1900. Farmers who lived close to the major grain markets in Stockholm and the mining

Intra- and Inter-Rater Agreement Describing Myometrial Lesions Using Morphologic Uterus Sonographic Assessment : A Pilot Study

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the intra- and inter-rater agreement for myometrial lesions using Morphologic Uterus Sonographic Assessment terminology. METHODS: Thirteen raters with high (n = 6) or medium experience (n = 7) assessed 30 3-dimensional ultrasound clips with (n = 20) and without (n = 10) benign myometrial lesions. Myometrial lesions were reported as poorly or well defined and then systematic

The Political Dynamics of Portfolio Design in European Democracies

The design of government portfolios - that is, the distribution of competencies among government ministries and office holders - has been largely ignored in the study of executive and coalition politics. This article argues that portfolio design is a substantively and theoretically relevant phenomenon that has major implications for the study of institutional design and coalition politics. The aut

Humidity-dependent colour change in the green forester moth, Adscita statices

The colours of insects serve important visual functions in aiding mate recognition, camouflage and warning. The display of insects is usually static, as cuticle coloration does not (or hardly) change during the lifespan of a mature imago form. Here, we describe a case of humidity-dependent, brilliant coloration in the green forester moth, Adscita statices. We show, by employing spectroscopic and u

The epidermal growth factor family has a dual role in deciding the fate of cancer cells

Expression of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptors HER1 and HER2 has been implicated in tumour growth and poor survival, whereas expression of HER3 and HER4 has been associated with improved survival of bladder cancer patients. The balance between the expression of the EGF family members may therefore have a role to play in determining the final outcome in cancer cells. To check this, we ex

Business Models and Strategy

What makes a business model successful? In this book the roots of business models are traced to the concept of the “business idea” which was popularized by researchers in the 1960s and 1970s. The business idea stresses the importance of conformance between the market and the product system, as well as between the product system and the internal features of the firm.A distinguishing feature of the
