Post-compression of picosecond pulses to four optical cycles
We report post-compression of 1.2 ps pulses into the few-cycle regime via multi-pass spectral broadening. We achieve compression factors of 40 in single and 93 in a dual stage scheme using a compact setup.
Spatio-temporal characterization of a femtosecond filament along its length
We present an experimental method capable of characterizing spatio-temporal dynamics of a femtosecond filament v ia F ourier t ransform i nterferometry, p roviding a three-dimensional reconstruction of the driving pulse, while scanning along the entire length of the filament.

A Novel Attosecond Timing Tool for Free-Electron Laser Experiment
We demonstrate a novel timing tool for Free-Electron Lasers to determine the delay between an attosecond pulse train and infrared pulse with sub-optical-cycle resolu-. tion.
Resonance in the K2-19 system is at odds with its high reported eccentricities
K2-19 hosts a planetary system composed of two outer planets, b and c, with size of 7.0 ± 0.2 R⊕ and 4.1 ± 0.2 R⊕, and an inner planet, d, with a radius of 1.11 ± 0.05 R® A recent analysis of Transit-Timing Variations (TTVs) suggested b and c are close to but not in 3:2 mean motion resonance (MMR) because the classical resonant angles circulate. Such an architecture challenges our understanding of

Renewing power : Including global asymmetries within the system boundaries of solar photovoltaic technology
Denna avhandling undersöker i vilken utsträckning de globala sociala och mateSolar photovoltaic (PV) technology is one of the most favored means of mitigating climate change. At the same time, there is a growing concern over how this technology is both environmentally harmful and unevenly distributed in the world economy. Researchers and environmentalists differ on whether a global relation of power is inherent in solar technology. This thesis investigates to what extent t

Concepts in testing of autonomous systems : Academic literature and industry practice
Testing of autonomous systems is extremely important as many of them are both safety-critical and security-critical. The architecture and mechanism of such systems are fundamentally different from traditional control software, which appears to operate in more structured environments and are explicitly instructed according to the system design and implementation. To gain a better understanding of a
Historical images of teachers and their underlying ideologies in Swedish academia : Multimodal discourses from 1950 and 1980
This study aims at exploring multimodal discursive images of academic teachers from 1950 and 1980 in Sweden. Using a discourse-historical approach, linguistic and visual data were analysed in a govern- ment report and three media sources related to a single Swedish university. Findings reveal how four dominant ideologies of academic teaching contributed to constructing eight discursive images of t

On the hausdorff dimension of bernoulli convolutions
We give an expression for the Garsia entropy of Bernoulli convolutions in terms of products of matrices. This gives an explicit rate of convergence of the Garsia entropy and shows that one can calculate the Hausdorff dimension of the Bernoulli convolution νβ to arbitrary given accuracy whenever β is algebraic. In particular, if the Garsia entropy H(β) is not equal to log(β) then we have a finite t

Socio-ecological factors shape the opportunity for polygyny in a migratory songbird
Why females pair with already mated males and the mechanisms behind variation in such polygynous events within and across populations and years remain open questions. Here, we used a 19-year data set from a pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) population to investigate, through local networks of breeding pairs, the socio-ecological factors related to the probability of being involved in a polygyno
Evidence of proteins, chromosomes and chemical markers of DNA in exceptionally preserved dinosaur cartilage
A histological ground-section from a duck-billed dinosaur nestling (Hypacrosaurus stebingeri) revealed microstructures morphologically consistent with nuclei and chromosomes in cells within calcified cartilage. We hypothesized that this exceptional cellular preservation extended to the molecular level and had molecular features in common with extant avian cartilage. Histochemical and immunological
