Exploring postoperative cognitive dysfunction and delirium in noncardiac surgery using MRI : A systematic review
Surgical patients are at high risk of developing postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) and postoperative delirium (POD). POCD and POD are associated with increased morbidity and mortality and worsening functional outcomes leading to severe socioeconomic consequences for the patient and the society in general. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a unique opportunity to study the anatomy an
Variation of carbon contents in eelgrass (Zostera marina) sediments implied from depth profiles
Seagrass meadows are able to store significant amounts of organic carbon in their underlying sediment, but global estimates are uncertain partly owing to spatio-temporal heterogeneity between and within areas and species. In order to provide robust estimates, there is a need to better understand the fate of, and mechanisms behind, organic carbon storage. In this observational study, we analyse a s

Development and Applications of a Laser-Wakefield X-ray Source (updated)
In laser-wakefield acceleration (LWFA), a femtosecond laser pulse is tightly focused in a gas to intensities exceeding 1018 W/cm2 . The laser radiation ionizes the medium and excites a plasma wave that travels behind the laser pulse. Electrons can be trapped in the oscillations in the plasma density, where electric fields of the order of several hundreds of GV/m accelerate them to relativistic ene

Rivaroxaban for secondary stroke prevention in patients with embolic strokes of undetermined source : Design of the NAVIGATE ESUS randomized trial
Background: Embolic strokes of undetermined source comprise up to 20% of ischemic strokes. The stroke recurrence rate is substantial with aspirin, widely used for secondary prevention. The New Approach riVaroxaban Inhibition of Factor Xa in a Global trial versus ASA to prevenT Embolism in Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source international trial will compare the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban,
White matter hyperintensity quantification in large-scale clinical acute ischemic stroke cohorts – The MRI-GENIE study
White matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden is a critically important cerebrovascular phenotype linked to prediction of diagnosis and prognosis of diseases, such as acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, current approaches to its quantification on clinical MRI often rely on time intensive manual delineation of the disease on T2 fluid attenuated inverse recovery (FLAIR), which hinders high-throughput a
Accuracy Analysis of Airborne Gravimeter Calibration Using Repeated Flight Paths
Some possible errors in determining the gravity anomalies are discussed. Such errors may be caused by an inaccurate calibration of the gravimeter used in an airborne survey system. An approach based on the wavelet decomposition is proposed for its additional calibration with the use of flight data obtained during repeated flights.
Retroactive Responsibility : A Comparison of Argumentation on State redress for Historical Institutional Child Abuse in Sweden and Denmark
State redress for abuse and neglect in children’s homes has been debated in all Scandinavian countries since early 2000s. In Sweden, an official apology was issued in 2011, and a temporary law enabled Swedish care leavers to apply for compensation of SEK 250,000 during 2013 and 2014. In Denmark, proposals for an official apology have repeatedly been turned down in Parliament. In this article, I co

Privacy-enabled Recommendations for Software Vulnerabilities
New software vulnerabilities are published daily.Prioritizing vulnerabilities according to their relevance to the collection of software an organization uses is a costly and slow process. While recommender systems were earlier proposed to address this issue, they ignore the security of the vulnerability prioritization data.As a result, a malicious operator or a third party adversary can collect vul
Repair of Erosions in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Objective. The aim of this study was to examine the occurrence of repair in a cohort of conventionally treated patients with early rheumatoid arthritis over 8 years.Methods. There were 395 patients included in the BARFOT study having radiographs of hands and feet at inclusion, and at 1, 2, 5, and 8 years, which were chronologically scored for erosions by the Sharp/van der Heijde method. An erosion
