We reply to Christoph Jager's criticism of the conditional probability solution (CPS) to the value problem for reliabilism due to Goldman and Olsson (2009). We argue that while Jager raises some legitimate concerns about the compatibility of CPS with externalist epistemology, his objections do not in the end reduce the plausibility of that solution.

Objective. This report reviews the literature to identify the advances in our understanding of the middle ear (ME)Eustachian tube (ET) system during the past 4 years and, on that basis, to determine whether the short-term goals elaborated in the last report were achieved and propose updated goals to guide future otitis media (OM) research. Data Sources. Databases searched included PubMed, Web of S

Biodiesel has recently reemerged as a common fuel. However, emissions from biodiesel combustion have been studied in much less detail than those from traditional petroleum-based diesel. In this experiment, emissions from the combustion of different fuel blends (BOO, B02, B20, B99, where the number after B indicates the percentage, by volume, of biodiesel in the fuel) in a VW TDi engine were analyz

One hypothesis for the reduction of vision in cave animals, such as the eyeless Mexican cavefish, is the high energetic cost of neural tissue and low food availability in subterranean habitats. However, data on relative brain and eye mass in this species or on any measure of the energetic cost of neural tissue are not available, making it difficult to evaluate the "expensive tissue hypothesis." We

The magnetic field integral equation for axially symmetric cavities with perfectly conducting surfaces is discretized according to a high-order convergent Fourier--Nyström scheme. The resulting solver is used to determine eigenwavenumbers and normalized magnetic eigenfields to very high accuracy in the entire computational domain.

In the wake of the atrocities of the twentieth century, the standard account of the Enlightenment, as a warranty of universal ideals of rationality and morality, has been challenged from a number of different angles. In line with these critical discourses, the present article investigates how, to a significant extent, two of the greatest philosophers of reason, Kant and Hegel, underpin their unive

OBJECTIVE-We tested genetic associations with weight loss and weight regain in the Diabetes Prevention Program, a randomized controlled trial of weight-loss inducing interventions (lifestyle and metformin) versus placebo. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS-Sixteen obesity-predisposing single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were tested for association with short-term (baseline to 6 months) and long-term (

Detraditionalization in late modernity has both affected traditional religion and the domain of clinical therapy. Sweden, which is said to be one of the most secularized societies in the world, instead has allowed the public domain to be colonized by new, spiritualized practices. Sold as therapy, the services of new spiritual leaders offer anti-stress techniques to prevent burn-out, or leaders are

Avhandlingen har även ett teoretiskt syfte: att i samspel medThe empirical aim of the thesis is to investigate what happens when global market-oriented models for auditing and quality assessment are taken up by local parishes. Particular attention is paid to the diaconal work of the parishes. The study is based on case studies where a number of parishes and auditing models provide the object of study. The thesis also has a theoretical aim: to test, in inter

Big Science accelerator complexes are no longer mere tools for nuclear and particle physics, but modern-day experimental resources for a wide range of natural sciences and often named instrumental to scientific and technological development for innovation and economic growth. Facilities compete on a global market to attract the best users and facilitate the best science, and advertise the achievem

We report on the network characterization of a series of hybrid nanocomposites consisting of integrated anisotropic nanoparticles (NPs) within a polyurea elastomeric matrix with low weight fractions ranging from 0.3 to 1.2 wt%. The grafting method employed to incorporate the silica-coated spindle-type hematite nanoparticles (SCH NPs), promotes the stability of the NPs in dispersion, and further en

Innovation management (IM) is a multidisciplinary field which has been growing for the past few decades. However, the management of innovation is often considered equivalent to technology management or the management of research and development. By focusing on a set of small-and medium-sized enterprises operating in a medium-high-tech industry, the paper intends to determine the characteristics of

We consider a moving-boundary problem associated with the fluid model for biofilm growth proposed by J. Dockery and I. Klapper, Finger formation in biofilm layers, SIAM J. Appl. Math. 62 (3) (2001) 853–869. Notions of classical, weak, and variational solutions for this problem are introduced. Classical solutions with radial symmetry are constructed, and estimates for their growth given. Using a we

Digital LLRF technology has been widely used in new generation particle accelerators. IF quadrature sampling is a common method for amplitude and phase detection. Many strategies, which obey the same rule of f(sample) = (M/N)f(IF) (M/N is a rational number), have been proposed to reduce the effects of spectrum aliasing. However, we found that M/N does not need to be a rational number according to

Éstas son las causasCinema and gender in queer theory share two fundamental aspects: both are performative and understood as social constructions. Nowadays, queer theory still causes adverse reactions with respect to the understanding of sex, gender and sexuality and Almodóvar's films have remained relevant until today. These two reasons lead us to the idea of looking at the film High Heels (Pedro Almodóvar, 1991) fr

Blood coagulation has a Janus-faced role in infectious diseases. When systemically activated, it can cause serious complications associated with high morbidity and mortality. However, coagulation is also part of the innate immune system and its local activation has been found to play an important role in the early host response to infection. Though the latter aspect has been less investigated, phy

Technical solutions for a number of Swedish industrial installations for dewatering and drying of bark are compiled and discussed. Further, lab-scale experiments with a heated bark pressing process have been performed to investigate to what extent parameters such as temperature and pressure will influence the dewatering process. Pressing with a heated press at 150 °C was shown to increase the dewa
