Varied Realistic Autonomous Vehicle Collision Scenario Generation

Recently there has been an increase in the number of available autonomous vehicle (AV) models. To evaluate and compare the safety of the various models the AVs need to be tested in several diverse safety-critical scenarios. We propose the Adversarial Test Case Generator (ATCG) that differently from previous test case generators allows for the generation of realistic collision scenarios with varied

Verbenone—the universal bark beetle repellent? Its origin, effects, and ecological roles

Bark beetles (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) spend most of their life in tissues of host plants, with several species representing economically relevant pests. Their behaviour is largely guided by complex olfactory cues. The compound verbenone was discovered early in the history of bark beetle pheromone research and is now sometimes referred to as a ‘universal bark beetle repellent’. However, some stu

Establishing reward systems for excellence in teaching–the experience of academics pioneering a reward system

Higher education institutions are struggling to elevate the value and status of academic teaching. In this endeavour, rewards for excellence in teaching are becoming a common measure. This study reports on the experience of the first academic teachers who were given the status as rewarded teachers in new reward systems. We explore rewarded teachers’ potential to influence teaching and learning cul

Current and Future Engineering Strategies for ECMO Therapy

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a last resort therapy for patients with respiratory failure where the gas exchange capacity of the lung is compromised. Venous blood is pumped through an oxygenation unit outside of the body where oxygen diffusion into the blood takes place in parallel to carbon dioxide removal. ECMO is an expensive therapy which requires special expertise to perform.

Proposing and testing the pathways from bullying victimization to bringing a weapon to school

Objective: The current study examined whether bullyingvictimization was associated with bringing a weapon toschool, fully or partly mediated by feeling unsafe in school, negative future education orientation, and skipping school.Method: Data from 6199 students (12–18 years old), whohad filled out the 2017 School Crime Supplement to theNational Crime Victimization Survey, were analyzed. Results: The ObjectiveThe current study examined whether bullying victimization was associated with bringing a weapon to school, fully or partly mediated by feeling unsafe in school, negative future education orientation, and skipping school.MethodData from 6199 students (12–18 years old), who had filled out the 2017 School Crime Supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey, were analyzed.ResultsThe r

A normal-incidence beam line at the MAX storage ring

A 1-m normal-incidence monochromator has been designed and installed on a bending-magnet beam line at the MAX storage ring in Lund. The optical properties of the beam line have been investigated via ray-tracing studies and with flux measurements of the beam line-monochromator combination. The spectrum of singly ionized yttrium, Y II

Hollow-cathode spectra of yttrium have been registered in the wavelength region 1000-48 800 Å. Resonant charge transfer reactions in the light source favour the excitation of Y II, where 174 new levels have been established by means of 1284 newly classified lines. Altogether we report 1521 lines between 235 levels in Y II. The ground complex (4d + 5s)2 is now completely known and a number of Rydbe

Extension of the analysis of Ni IX

The spectrum of eight times ionised nickel, Ni IX, was photographed in the 100-170 Å wavelength interval. In this region 80 lines were identified as transitions from the 3p63d2 ground configuration to the mixed 3p53d3 + 3p63d4p configurations and 35 lines were identified as 3p63d2 - 3p63d4f transitions. All 9 levels of the 3p63d2 configuration and all 12 levels of the 3p63d4p configuration have be

Is there any criminal law protection for exploited migrant workers in Sweden? Logics of criminal law and the labour migration regime

The exploitation of migrant workers is widespread in the Nordic countries in labour intensive sectors. This article investigates whether there is any criminal law protection in practice for exploited migrant workers in Sweden. On the basis of descriptive statistics regarding the outcomes of criminal investigations on human trafficking for forced labour and on human exploitation for forced labour aThe exploitation of migrant workers is widespread in the Nordic countries in labour intensive sectors. Production of very cold, highly charged ions by synchrotron radiation: Comparisons of the “scalpel” and “hammer” methods

Measurements of kinetic energies of highy charged argon ions produced by inner-shell photoionization and by ion-beam impact have been made using time-of-flight techniques. High-charge-state recoil ions produced by beams of ∼ 0.5−1 MeV/u Cl5+ are found to have energies one to two orders of magnitude higher than ions of the same charge produced by vacancy cascades following inner-shell photoionizatiMeasurements of kinetic energies of highy charged argon ions produced by inner-shell photoionization and by ion-beam impact have been made using time-of-flight techniques. Production of very-low-energy highly charged ions by synchrotron radiation

Very-low-energy highly charged ions have been produced by use of white and monochromatic x rays from a wiggler line at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory to generate vacancy cascades following inner-shell photoionization. Recoil-ion energies have been determined and are shown to correspond essentially to room temperatures, even for high charge states. Promising applications to study of

A randomized trial involving a multifunctional diet reveals systematic lipid remodeling and improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors in middle aged to aged adults

BACKGROUND: A multifunctional diet (MFD) combining foods and ingredients with proven functional properties, such as fatty fish and fiber-rich foods, among others, was developed and shown to markedly reduce cardiometabolic risk-associated factors.OBJECTIVE: Here, we aim at examining metabolic physiological changes associated with these improvements.METHODS: Adult overweight individuals without othe

Complexation of octenyl succinic anhydride-esterified corn starch/ polyphenol-rich Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) extract: Structural and digestibility features

Native and octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA; degree of substitution = 0.0164 ± 0.002)-esterified corn starches were employed for the manufacture of the starch-polyphenol V-type complexes. For this, the aqueous extract of Roselle was used as a rich source of polyphenols. Assembled OSA starch-polyphenol VI-type complexes were obtained, primarily due to hydrogen (H)-bond interactions and hydrophobic C

Oat arabinoxylans and their potential glycemic index-lowering role: an in vitro study

Oat (Avena sativa) is a cereal crop rich in dietary fibers, which are generally considered beneficial for human health. The objective of this work was to investigate the in vitro starch digestibility-reducing effect of the flour of a high arabinoxylan (AX) content (6.1%) oat line obtained from a random mutagenized oat population, compared to the original variety as a reference. The effect of the o

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Archives Research Residency

Billy Klüver: Dawn again after 9 eveningsThis project pries on Billy Klüver as a figure based on the relationship between artist and engineer in a specific context, also as a contingent form of two similar but different selves. It suggests various ways to understand the art-technology relationship through the central lens of his materials from RRF archives.

halffloor - 60 second sonic artworks project : #42 - FFPP

The original sound source was part of my field recording regarding my project about lighthouses. I had a chance to meet and interview a lighthouse keeper in Spain; we talked about different soundscapes in the ports nowadays, even though some lighthouses keep functioning visually. An operating foghorn is not mandatory anymore in the EU, therefore most lighthouses don't use it anymore. The lighthous

Ambulance clinicians’ understanding of older patients’ self-determination: A vignette study

BackgroundOlder patients are often vulnerable and highly dependent on healthcare professionals’ assessment in the event of acute illness. In the context of ambulance services, this poses challenges as the assessment is normally conducted with a focus on identifying life-threatening conditions. Such assessment is not fully satisfactory in a patient relationship that also aims to promote and protect
