Combustion characteristics of some alternative fuels in ICE: : a detailed numerical study

Two major fuels commonly used in compression ignition (CI) and spark ignition (SI) enginesare diesel and gasoline. The reserve of diesel and gasoline is limited, however the combustion ofthese fuels giving rise to air pollution. This calls for the search for alternative fuels, preferablyrenewable fuels, and the development of more efficient and clean combustion technologies forinternal combustion

Insight into particle production mechanisms via angular correlations of identified particles in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

Two-particle angular correlations were measured in pp collisions at s=7 TeV for pions, kaons, protons, and lambdas, for all particle/anti-particle combinations in the pair. Data for mesons exhibit an expected peak dominated by effects associated with mini-jets and are well reproduced by general purpose Monte Carlo generators. However, for baryon–baryon and anti-baryon–anti-baryon pairs, where both

Measurement of D-meson production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

The production cross sections for prompt charmed mesons D 0, D +, D ∗ + and Ds+ were measured at mid-rapidity in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s=7TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). D mesons were reconstructed from their decays D 0→ K -π+, D +→ K -π+π+, D ∗ +→ D 0π+, Ds++→K-K+π+, and their charge conjugates.With respect to previous measurements in

Record performance for junctionless transistors in InGaAs MOSFETs

We demonstrate junctionless tri-gate MOSFETs utilizing a single layer 7 nm thick In0.80Ga0.20As (ND ∼ 1×1019 cm-3) as both channel and contacts. Devices with source and drain metal separation of 32 nm and Lg of 25 nm exhibit SS = 76 mV/dec., both the highest reported gm = 1.6 mS/μα and Ion = 160 μA/μm (VDD = 0.5 V, IOFF = 100 nA/μm) for a junctionless transistor. We also examine the influence of t

Vertical heterojunction InAs/InGaAs nanowire MOSFETs on Si with Ion = 330 μa/μm at Ioff = 100 nA/μm and VD = 0.5 v

We present vertical InAs nanowire MOSFETs on Si with an In0.7Ga0.3As drain. The devices show Ion and gm/SS record performance for vertical MOSFETs and Ioff below 1 nA/μm at Vd 0.5 V. We show a device with gm=1.4 mS/μm and SS=85 mV/dec, therefore having Q-value (gm/SS) of 16. The device has Ion=330 μA/μm and 46 μA/μm at Ioff 100 nA/μm and 1 nA/μm, respectively. Furthermore, we show a device with SS

The stem cell regulator PEDF is dispensable for maintenance and function of hematopoietic stem cells

Pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF), a ubiquitously expressed 50 kDa secreted glycoprotein, was recently discovered to regulate self-renewal of neural stem cells and have a supportive effect on human embryonic stem cell growth. Here, we analyzed expression of PEDF in the murine hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) compartments and found that PEDF is highly expressed in primary long-term HSCs. Theref

Pore-scale analysis of diffusion transport parameters in digitally reconstructed SOFC anodes with gradient porosity in the main flow direction

One of the promising devices to obtain electrical and thermal energy with considerable high efficiency is the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The electrical energy is the result of the electrochemical reactions that occur inside the fuel cell (FC) when the reactant gases reach the so-called three-phase boundary (TPB). The nonhomogeneous and anisotropic characteristics of the layer between the gas ch

The asthmatic airway response – effects on physiology and biomarkers

Asthma is a common airway inflammatory disease, associated with a variable degree of airway obstruction. It is a heterogeneous condition with large variations in severity and clinical presentation. Moreover, disease activity can vary from time to time. Taken together, these factors make the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of asthma challenging. Peripheral airway inflammation has been shown to

Blues for a Blue Planet : Narratives of Climate Change and the Anthropocene in Non-Fiction Books

The planetary changes associated with the Anthropocene, including climate change and extinction of species, pose severe threats to civilization, humanity, and the natural world as we know it. They also pose special challenges to the human imagination. To meet these challenges, climate change communicators use narratives. PLATO as it is : A legacy mission for Galactic archaeology

Deciphering the assembly history of the Milky Way is a formidable task, which becomes possible only if one can produce high-resolution chrono-chemo-kinematical maps of the Galaxy. Data from large-scale astrometric and spectroscopic surveys will soon provide us with a well-defined view of the current chemo-kinematical structure of the Milky Way, but it will only enable a blurred view on the tempora

Perivascular Neurotransmitter Regulation of Cerebral Blood Flow

Cerebral circulation is regulated by two principal systems: autonomic and sensory nerves from cranial ganglia and intrinsic innervation of the cerebral microcirculation. The sympathetic innervation originates from the superior cervical ganglion and stores noradrenaline and neuropeptide Y. It has a role in the extreme limits of the autoregulation. The parasympathetic innervation of the brain circul

Risk-based planning of assessment actions for fatigue life prediction

It is vital to extend the service life of existing bridges as far as possible as a means for improved sustainability leading to reduced economic cost and resource consumption. This requirement is especially valid for bridges which are critical components of highly vulnerable infrastructure systems. Achieving this aim requires enhanced methods involving various actions and methods influencing diffe
