Graphics for the masses: a hardware rasterization architecture for mobile phones

The mobile phone is one of the most widespread devices with rendering capabilities. Those capabilities have been very limited because the resources on such devices are extremely scarce; small amounts of memory, little bandwidth, little chip area dedicated for special purposes, and limited power consumption. The small display resolutions present a further challenge; the angle subtended by a pixel i

Glaciodynamics, Deglacial Landforms and Isostatic Uplift during the last Deglaciation of Norrbotten, Sweden

Under istiderna täckte inThe aim of this thesis was to reconstruct the glaciodynamics, deglacial landforms, isostatic uplift and to date the deglaciation. Glaciodynamics and deglacial landforms were focused on to provide a process and depositional model for De Geer moraine and Niemisel moraine and to reveal their internal and spatial relationship, based on detailed sedimentological and structural investigations. The isost

Isoform distribution and tissue contents of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in hypertrophied smooth muscle from rat portal vein

Growth of the smooth muscle in the rat portal vein was initiated by an increased transmural pressure. After 7 days, the cross-sectional area of the vessel wall and the maximal active force of the longitudinal muscle layer had increased twofold. Electron microscopy showed that the cell cross-sectional area was increased, suggesting cellular hypertrophy. Increased amounts of intermediate (10 nm) fil

Delayed Onset of Ototoxic Effects of Gentamicin in Patients with Meniére's Disease

In treatment of Meniére's disease, installations of gentamicin are continued until there are signs of disturbance of vestibular or cochlear function. However, since it has been demonstrated that gentamicin is eliminated slowly from the inner ear, a continuing ototoxic effect may be suspected. The present study aimed to investigate the delay of onset of symptoms of ototoxic effects. Five patients w

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults: Definition, Prevalence, {beta}-Cell Function, and Treatment.

Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a disorder in which, despite the presence of islet antibodies at diagnosis of diabetes, the progression of autoimmune ß-cell failure is slow. LADA patients are therefore not insulin requiring, at least during the first 6 months after diagnosis of diabetes. Among patients with phenotypic type 2 diabetes, LADA occurs in 10% of individuals older than 35

Changes of bone mineral mass and soft tissue composition after hip fracture

The aim of this prospective longitudinal study was to measure prospectively the bone mineral density (BMD) and anthropometric variables after a hip fracture. In particular, we studied changes in the BMD in both the injured and uninjured hips, and examined if the postoperative mortality rate and complications, including pseudarthrosis of the fracture and late segmental collapse of the head of the f

Association between SLE nephritis and polymorphic variants of the CRP and Fc gamma RIIIa genes

Objectives. To study the relationship between clinical manifestations in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with polymorphisms in suggested susceptibility genes encoding Fc gamma RIIa, Fc gamma RIIIa, Fc gamma RIIIb, CRP and IL-1Ra. Methods. Genetic polymorphisms were analysed in 323 unrelated SLE patients and 200 healthy blood donors. The genotype frequencies were compared between clinical subset

Managing cardiovascular risk: reality vs. perception

Clinical practice guidelines attempt to bridge the gap between the generation of scientific evidence and its application. For cardiovascular risk reduction, the implementation of knowledge into practice, both with respect to lifestyle change and pharmacological treatment, has been shown to be poor. There are several reasons for this 'guidelines gap', with physician factors including insufficient t

CO2 induced acute respiratory acidosis and brain tissue intracellular pH: a P-31 NMR study in swine

High concentration carbon dioxide (CO2) is used to promote pre-slaughter anaesthesia in swine and poultry, as well as short-lasting surgical anaesthesia and euthanasia in laboratory animals. Questions related to animal welfare have been raised, as CO2 anaesthesia does not set in momentarily. Carbon dioxide promotes anaesthesia by lowering the intracellular pH in the brain cells, but the dynamics o

Titchmarsh-Weyl M-function asymptotics and some results in the inverse spectral theory for vector-valued Sturm-Liouville equations and a certain higher order ordinary differential equation

Popular Abstract in Swedish Denna avhandling utgöres av två separata rapporter, där studieobjektet för den första är en vektorvärd Sturm-Liouville ekvation på formen -(PU')'+QU=zU, xin[0,b), med P^{-1},W,Q hermiteska med lokalt integrerbara matriselement; och under vissa ytterligare villkor på P^{-1} och W. Under dessa förutsättningar härleds några huvudresultat beträf- fande asymptotiken, då z igThis discourse is constituted by two separate reprots, where the first one offers an elementary deduction of the leading order term asymptotics for the Titchmarsh-Weyl M-function corresponding to a vector-valued Sturm-Liouville equation of the form -(PU')'+QU=zu, xin[0,b), with P^{-1},W,Q being hermitean with locally integrable entries; and under some additional conditions on P^{-1} and W. In the

Misplaced Concreteness and Concrete Places : Critical Analyses of Divergent Discourses on Sustainability

De fyra diskurserna representerar olika försök att i tilltagande grad utmana etablerade, modernistiska perspektiv på sociThis dissertation critically examines the tension between mainstream and counterpoint perspectives on sustainability on the basis of analyses of four approaches to this issue: environmental economics, ecological economics, adaptive management, and bioregionalism, which are presented as successive attempts to challenge mainstream, modernist perspectives on socio-ecological relationships. The differ

Time-domain Fresnel-to-Fraunhofer diffraction with photon echoes

A photon echo experiment in Tm3+:YAG is reported that shows, for the first time to the authors’ knowledge, the time-domain equivalent of the transition from near- to far-field diffraction, including Talbot self-imaging effects. The experiment demonstrates the huge dispersion capability of photon echoes and opens the way to further exploration of space–time duality.
