CCN Activation of Slightly Soluble Organics: Importance of Small Amounts of Inorganic Salt and Particle Phase
Using a static thermal-gradient diffusion cloud condensation nucleus chamber we study the effect of small amounts of inorganic salts on the cloud droplet activation of two slightly soluble organic aerosol components (adipic and succinic acid) and experimentally confirm the two maxima predicted by Köhler theory modified to take limited solubility into account. Equally important we suggest (and conf
Reconstruction of Equivalent currents Using the Scalar Surface Integral Representation
Knowledge of the current distribution on a radome can be used to improve radome design, detect manufacturing errors, and to verify numerical simulations. In this paper, the transformation from near-field data to its equivalent current distribution on a surface of arbitrary material, i.e., the radome, is analyzed. The transformation is based on the scalar surface integral representation that relate

Multi-Targeted Ethnography : Refunctioning Academia in an Age of Measurements and Demands for Societal Usefulness
Over the past decade scholars in the humanities and social sciences have increasingly been pressed to demonstrate the manner in which their research is “useful” to society while simultaneously, funding for their research has been more tightly tied to bibliometric measurements that prioritize high-brow scholarship geared towards publish results in “leading” international peer-review journals. In ma

Effects of Neglecting Buffers in Feed-Forward Design for Web Servers
This paper addresses a problem related to control of web servers. Due to implementation issues, relevant measurements are only taken over the a limit part of the server system, which leaves the controller unaware of what happens in buffers proceeding the actual web-server (for instance in the TCP/IP layers). We model this and reveals that the unmeasured buffering introduces an extra zero in the re
Hot and cool plate tests on alternative materials for pilot clothing
Under operations in hot regions and flights at low heights the temperature in the fighter cockpit may rise to high levels causing heat stress on pilot. Reducing cockpit glass light permeability or increasing cockpit ventilation reduce heat load. The measures should not affect pilots’ performance. This study investigated if clothing material with reflective properties has an effect on heat gain in
The Case for a Hybrid Passive/Active Network Monitoring Scheme in the Wireless Internet
This paper discusses monitoring within wired and wireless networks and the type of monitoring information needed to support different applications. We suggest a hybrid active/passive monitoring approach with a dynamic time window mechanism and interchangeable filters to extract requested information. The paper also shows our initial experimental results and presents our conclusions.
