Geomorphology alteration effects over Kävlinge River Basin

This thesis focuses on the case study over the Kävlinge catchment located in the south of Sweden, and mainly in the Kävlinge river. This river, which is the mainstream of the catchment, has been subject to modifications due to agricultural activities. Such modifications, like straightening or increasing the depth and channeling sections of the river, will affect the river’s hydrodynamics. These in

Synthesis of a Pentadentate Pyridyl/ Quinoline Ligand and its Iron(II)complexes

Mononuclear iron(II) complexes of the ligand have been synthesized and characterized. Three iron complexes, [Fe(CH3CN)L1][OTf2], [Fe(OTf)L1] and [Fe(Cl)L1][Cl6Fe2O] (L1 = 2-(pyridine-2-yl)-N,N-bis(pyridine-2-ylmethyl)quinoline-8-amine) (OTf = triflate, trifluoromethane sulfonate)

Exploring Private Facilitation Strategies for Industrial Symbiosis: a Case Study from the Swedish Food Industry

The concept of industrial symbiosis (IS) provides practical solutions for resource efficiency and low-carbon development. The IS represents a collective, multi-industrial approach for companies to improve their economic and environmental performance through the sharing of heat, electricity, water, by-products, information, and reuse of waste. The main challenges to IS emergence include a long dura

Towards the synthesis of dbCOT: Condensation reaction approach

Dibenzo[a,e]cyclooctatetraene or dbCOT is a commonly used ligand in transition metal catalysis. Moreover, the Strand group has been using its properties to change shape (from tub-shaped to planar and vice versa upon reduction/oxidation) to develop novel molecular machines. However, the use of dbCOT in both transition metal catalysis and as a building block for molecular machines has been limited b

The Apportionment of International Responsibility between the European Union and its Member States under Mixed Agreements

Uppsatsen presenterar slutsatsen This thesis examines whether there exists a special legal regime for the apportionment of international responsibility between the EU and its Member States under mixed agreements. The thesis argues that the sui generis aspects of the EU, such as its constitutional order, its international legal personality, its extensive treaty-making powers, legislative powers, its executive federalist construct,

Diagnostic performance of the Selvester QRS scoring system in relation to clinical ECG assessment of patients with lateral myocardial infarction using cardiac magnetic resonance as reference standard.

The Selvester QRS scoring system has previously been shown to enable estimation of myocardial infarct (MI) size by quantitative evaluation of the 12-lead ECG. The aim of this study was to assess the system's ability to detect and quantify lateral MI, using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) as reference standard.

ISSN 0311-5518.Well-preserved early holaspid stages of the Cambrian Series 3 trilobites Ellipsocephalus hoffi (Schlotheim, 1823) and Ellipsocephalus polytomus Linnarsson, 1877 have been disco

Influenza A facilitates sensitization to house dust mite in infant mice leading to an asthma phenotype in adulthood

The origins of allergic asthma, particularly in infancy, remain obscure. Respiratory viral infections and allergen sensitization in early life have been associated with asthma in young children. However, a causal link has not been established. We investigated whether an influenza A infection in early life alters immune responses to house dust mite (HDM) and promotes an asthmatic phenotype later in

Investigation of the mediated electron transfer mechanism of cellobiose dehydrogenase at cytochrome c-modified gold electrodes

The present study reports on the comparison of direct and mediated electron transfer pathways in the interaction of the fungal enzyme cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) with the redox protein cytochrome c (cyt c) immobilised at a modified gold electrode surface. Two types of CDHs were chosen for this investigation: a basidiomycete (white rot) CDH from Trametes villosa and a recently discovered ascomyc

Measurement of transverse-single-spin asymmetries for midrapidity and forward-rapidity production of hadrons in polarized p plus p collisions at root s=200 and 62.4 GeV

Measurements of transverse-single-spin asymmetries (A(N)) in p + p collisions at root s = 62.4 and 200 GeV with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider are presented. At midrapidity, A(N) is measured for neutral pion and eta mesons reconstructed from diphoton decay, and, at forward rapidities, neutral pions are measured using both diphotons and electromagnetic clusters. The neut

Probabilistic Joint Image Segmentation and Labeling by Figure-Ground Composition

We propose a layered statistical model for image segmentation and labeling obtained by combining independently extracted, possibly overlapping sets of figure-ground (FG) segmentations. The process of constructing consistent image segmentations, called tilings, is cast as optimization over sets of maximal cliques sampled from a graph connecting all non-overlapping figure-ground segment hypotheses.

MEK1/2 inhibitor U0126 but not endothelin receptor antagonist clazosentan reduces upregulation of cerebrovascular contractile receptors and delayed cerebral ischemia, and improves outcome after subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats.

Cerebral vasospasm and late cerebral ischemia (LCI) remain leading causes of mortality in patients experiencing a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). This occurs typically 3 to 4 days after the initial bleeding and peaks at 5 to 7 days. The underlying pathophysiology is still poorly understood. Because SAH is associated with elevated levels of endothelin-1 (ET-1), focus has been on counteracting endoth

Mental health professionals' attitudes towards people with mental illness : Do they differ from attitudes held by people with mental illness?

AIMS: Studies investigating mental health professionals' attitudes towards people with mental illness are scarce and there is a lack of comparative studies including both patients' and mental health professionals' attitudes. The aim of the present study was to investigate mental health staff's attitudes towards people with mental illness and compare these with the attitudes of patients in contact

DNGR-1 is a specific and universal marker of mouse and human Batf3-dependent dendritic cells in lymphoid and nonlymphoid tissues

Mouse CD8 alpha(+) dendritic cells (DCs) in lymphoid organs and CD103(+) CD11b(-) DCs in nonlymphoid tissues share phenotypic and functional similarities, as well as a unique shared developmental dependence on the transcription factor Batf3. Human DCs resembling mouse CD8 alpha(+) DCs in phenotype and function have been identified in human blood, spleen, and tonsil. However, it is not clear whethe

Demographic patterns and trends in patenting: Gender, age, and education of inventors

Using population-wide data on inventors and their demographic characteristics, the paper analyzes trends and patterns by technologies in age, the level of education, and gender gap. We find that the education level of inventors has risen over time. We also find that the gender gap is closing but at slower pace than in other comparable areas of society. Much to our surprise, the average age of inve

Equality and Comparative Justice

Abstract in UndeterminedIn this paper I criticize the standard argument for deontological egalitarianism, understood as the thesis that there is a moral claim to have an equal share of well-being or whatever other good counts. That argument is based on the idea that equals should be treated equally. I connect the debate over egalitarianism with that over comparative justice. A common theme is a ge
