An Oxidized Surface State Model of Vanadium Oxides and Its Application to Catalysis

The charge distribution around the VO bonds in V2O5, V6O13, and V2O4 was calculated by using an empirical formula. The same expression was also used to calculate the oxygen bond strengths on the surface. The surfaces of lower oxides were treated as though they were in an oxidized state which is believed to correspond to the conditions in oxidation and ammoxidation processes. The result is that O2−

Exposure and nasal inflammation in workers heating polyurethane.

AbstractOBJECTIVE. To test the hypothesis that exposure to thermal-degradation products of polyurethane (PUR), particularly isocyanates, induced nasal inflammation.METHODS. Thirty-eight workers -14 with a history of work-related nasal symptoms (WRS/Nose), and 15 referents without such history - exposed to sprayed and heated PUR glue, were studied with regard to biomarkers of isocyanate exposure [4

Virtual Mobility and Pollution Prevention - The Emerging Role of ICT Based Communication in Organisations and its Impact on Travel

Detta kan i sin tur påverka behovet av pendlings- och tjänsteresor, genom att vi får tillgång information, en funktion eller en tjänInformation and Communication Technologies change the way we work and communicate, enabling us to telework and to have virtual meetings - collaborating without a physical meeting. This can influence the need for commuting and business travel by provision of access to an activity without mobility - virtual mobility. The large environmental impact of travel makes this potential travel reduction inte

Studies in Robotic Vision, Optical Illusions and Nonlinear Diffusion Filtering

Den första delen handlar om två styckThis thesis is divided into three parts, which all deal with computational analysis and processing of images. However, the settings are quite diverse. They range from robotic camera sensors, over human perception, to physical measurement setups. In spite of this diversity, common theoretical ideas and computational aspects are applied which ties the three different parts closer together. The first

A comparison of the alpha-L-fucosidase activities of human liver and serum

Human liver alpha-L-fucosidase (alpha-L-fucoside fucohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.51) has been separated into four components by chromatography on Sephadex G-150 or DEAE-cellulose. These components differ in their relative stability to heat and acid treatment, and their response to neuraminidase. The serum enzyme was devoid of high molecular weight activity and probably contained more sialic acid residues

World Music School : musikundervisning i en mångkulturell skola

"En beskrivning av projektet World Music School som syftade till att göra det möjligt för alla barn på grundskolans alla stadier att få möte olika kulturyttringar, vilket kan bidra till ökad omvärldsförståelse, identitet och kulturell samhörighet. Musikhögskolan i Malmö samarbetade med Kulturskolan och tio grundskolor i staden. Projektets uppläggning och genomförande presenteras, diskuteras och u

Production of ethanol from biomass - Research in Sweden

Ethanol produced from various lignocellulosic materials such as wood, agricultural and forest residues has the potential to be a valuable substitute for, or complement to, gasoline. This paper reviews the research activities in Sweden on development of the technology for ethanol production from lignocellulosics. The paper focuses on hemicellulose and cellulose hydrolysis and fermentation as well a

Plasma high density lipoproteins and lipolytic enzyme activities in diabetic patients

Eighty diabetic patients, consecutively selected from an out-patient clinic, were studied with regard to plasma lipoprotein levels, especially HDL. Patients treated with sulphonylureas had 24% lower HDL cholesterol concentrations (p less than 0.01) but only about 7% lower apo AI levels (n.s.) than those on insulin treatment. This difference could at least partly be explained by differences in age

Structure-function effects in primary immunodeficiencies

Several immunodeficiency-related genes have been identified and a large number of mutations in these genes. Currently, a genetic defect has been determined in more than 2000 patients. Only recently has it become possible to address structure-function effects of these mutations in the corresponding proteins. The consequences of mutations in structure are discussed for Btk in X-linked agammaglobulin

Interactions between Streptococcus pyogenes and the Human Immune System

Streptococcus pyogenes is a common human pathogen causing mild infections such as tonsillitis and pharyngitis, but is also the cause of life-threatening conditions. To be able to infect the human host, S. pyogenes express different virulence factors. The surface-expressed M protein is a major virulence factor of S. pyogenes, mediating resistance to killing by human neutrophils. Results presented i
