We show that the rotation axis of a triaxial nucleus may flip from the intermediate axis (γ=-30) to the smallest axis (γ=+30) due to the polarization by an aligned T=0np pair. The example we discuss is the triaxial N=Z nucleus Ge64 where the isoscalar π(g9/2)- ν(g9/2) pair aligns to iπ=9+ in As66 and flips the rotation from γ≈-30 to γ≈30. Calculations are performed in the spherical shell model as

The recycling, S-nitrosylated heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycan glypican-1 releases anhydromannose (anMan)-containing HS chains by a nitrosothiol-catalyzed cleavage in endosomes that can be constitutive or induced by ascorbate. The HS-anMan chains are then transported to the nucleus. A specific nuclear target for HS-anMan has not been identified. We have monitored endosome-to-nucleus trafficking o

BACKGROUND: This prospective study compares results of infrainguinal revascularisation with autologous vein in diabetic and non-diabetic populations.PATIENTS AND METHODS: 101 patients (diabetics (A) n = 50 and non-diabetics (B) n = 51) were operated upon with an in situ saphenous vein bypass to the popliteal artery below knee or to crural arteries, due to critical ischemia. Data on operative detai

Spermatogenesis is an androgen-regulated process that depends on the action of androgen receptor (AR). Sperm production may be affected in men treated for testicular cancer (TC), and it is important to identify the factors influencing the timing of spermatogenesis recovery following cancer treatment. It is known that the CAG and GGN repeat numbers affect the activity of the AR; therefore, the aim

Shortcomings of current techniques used for the intracerebral transplantation of ventral mesencephalic dopamine neurons include low graft survival, high variability, considerable implantation trauma and suboptimal graft integration. In order to overcome these limitations, we have adopted a microtransplantation approach which allows precise and reproducible implantation of ventral mesencephalon cel

Preservation of fetal ventral mesencephalic (VM) dopaminergic tissue prior to transplantation has been hampered by the fact that the cells are vulnerable to mechanical and osmotic stress after storage. Previous quantitative studies have shown that cool storage in a so-called 'hibernation medium' prior to grafting, can be used safely for up to 2 days without morphological or functional losses [16,3

All three critical points of the evolutionary explanation proposed by Maestripieri et al. may not withstand close scrutiny. Instead, there should be an alternative explanation that has nothing to do with genetic continuity, but stresses the rewarding property of attractiveness that results mainly from sociocultural value assignment and sexual experience pursuit.

This paper describes the challenges concerning measuring quality within the field of emergency response, and discusses specific examples within fire response. Using quality as a standard of measurement to evaluate response efforts of trained personnel at emergency events can lead to increased effectiveness in the response phase of an emergency event; thereby saving additional lives, property, and

Things are seldom ideal. The quality in information underlying the assessment of risk and support decisions is not an exception. Quantitative measures of uncertainty are extremely useful, but a problem with quantitative measures of uncertainty is that qualitative aspects of uncertainty, e.g. related to weaknesses in background knowledge or deep uncertainty (Cox 2012), are difficult to address.

This article traces the declining fortunes of the mushaa', a once-prominent Levantine culture of common land. Palestinians managed to resist attempts by the Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate to break up the mushaa'. Under Israeli colonization, the remaining commons are now subject to another type of appropriation: individual Palestinian contractors seize hold of mushaa' land and build on it.

Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to investigate the added value of using temperature-dependent electric and magnetic properties in high-Temperature electromagnetic simulations. Design/methodology/approach - In this work, the electromagnetic properties of Domex 420, SSAB, have been characterized as a function of the temperature, from room temperature to 900°C. The measurement of the electric a

The notion of societal safety and security has recently been raised to deal with a composite landscape of diverse threats and vulnerabilities. The concept of resilience has gained currency in recent years in many contexts as an alternative to prevalent failure-oriented safety approaches. In order to be meaningful in a societal safety/security context, the resilience concept must be translated to a
