The study deals with R&D, international spillovers and productivity growth. More specifically the first issue we look at is whether R&D spillovers are transferred across different industries and countries. The effect of R&D conducted within the industry, as will as in other industries and countries, on productivity growth are examined. The second issue concerns what channels and factor

A novel model of role of conditioning in attention is presented and evaluated on a Nao humanoid robot. The model implements conditioning and habituation in interaction with a dynamic neural field where different stimuli compete for activation. The model can be seen as a demonstration of how stimulus-selection and action-selection can be combined and illustrates how positive or negative reinforceme

In agriculture, as in industry, have many physically demanding jobs disappeared and the physical stress factors have changed. However, the working days in farms are often long, and it is difficult to hire workers for help as the work conditions are considered to be harsh. The thermal work environment in farms is one of the factors influencing the work conditions. This study aimed to find out the p

This work focuses on the design of SC-LDPC codes for transmission over non-ergodic, block-fading channels. Our main contribution is an algorithm, allowing to start from a (J,K )-regular, uncoupled LDPC ensemble, from which one can recursively build up a protograph-based SC-LDPC ensemble having any target diversity order d. The diversity order is achieved assuming a low-complexity iterative decodin

This thesis concerns involuntary treatment of alcoholism. Clients committed according to the Swedish Act on Care of Addicts in Certain Cases were treated in the same residential treatment setting as voluntarily admitted clients. Colorectal cancers are globally ranked as the third most common cancer form in terms of incidence and mortality. Diet has long been considered as one of the main factors affecting population outcome regarding development of cancer in the colon. Numerous epidemiological studies have found links between consumption of dietary fibres and milk and reduced risk of cancers including colon cancer. To be

Ximelagatran is the first oral agent in a new class of direct thrombin inhibitors and is under investigation for the prevention and treatment of a range of thromboembolic disorders. Atrial. fibrillation (AF) is associated with a markedly increased risk of stroke and, while study results have consistently demonstrated that anticoagulant therapy with warfarin reduces this risk, there are substantial
