I study religion in the public sphere to improve policy-making and support harmonious coexistence in diverse societies.

Over the last few decades, the religious landscape in Europe changed significantly due to a number of factors, from migration to the development of new religious and non-religious movements. Such change demands the development of new solutions and innovative policies within law, education or spatial design to effectively manage religious diversity. To support the development of specific solutions, I am studying when and why diversity results in disagreements and conflicts, and which allow it to be transformed into a constructive force.

In my dissertation project, I focus on the so-called "multi-faith spaces", both as actual rooms one can encounter within the public institutions such as hospitals, universities or airports, and as a conceptual term, which helps us think about and analyse the current diversity management policies in Northern Europe.

My profile in Lund University research portal

I study religion in the public sphere to improve law and policy-making, and support harmonious coexistence in diverse societies.

Over the last few decades the religious landscape in Europe changed significantly. However, the existing policies mostly failed to adequately address the growing pluralism, especially within the public space. In my research I am studying the ways in which different religions interact with each other, offer help in understanding their primary needs and propose solutions for transforming spiritual diversity into a constructive force in society.

In my PhD project I claim that the current approach to the "secular/religious" division is untenable as it creates growing polarisation. It also deprives law of its necessary mediatory and balancing position, reducing rule of law into rule by law. Instead, I plan to propose a renewed Multi-Faith Paradigm based on the notions of encounter and "necessary coaltions", facilitated through religious literacy and translation.
