When the World Falls Apart, the Churches Are Getting Together

28 October 2026 14:00 Symposium

The Faculty of Theology and the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies (CTR) are organizing the half‑day symposium When the World Falls Apart, the Churches Are Getting Together. The symposium is arranged in connection with the meeting of the Commission on Faith and Order (World Council of Churches), which is gathering for a week of sessions in and around Lund. Faith and Order is the main theological stream within the modern ecumenical movement, addressing questions of faith, ecclesiology, and church order to promote visible Christian unity. The movement emerged during the first half of the 20th century and became part of the World Council of Churches after the Second World War.

Together with representatives from, among others, the World Council of Churches, the Faith and Order Commission, the national Church of Sweden, and the Diocese of Lund, CTR is arranging an academic half‑day program for and with the Faith and Order commissioners, as well as students and researchers at the university. Most of the program will also be open to the general public.

The half‑day symposium will take place in the main auditorium at LUX in the afternoon of October 28, followed by a light dinner in the LUX staff dining room.
