This master thesis purpose is to increase the understanding of how the diaphragm walls function. The interest have mainly been focused on how much movement between the inner and outer leaf one can permit A major interest have also been focused on how much interaction between the leafs one can expect.
The effects of four parameters on the cracking of a single leaf masomy facade were studied. The four parameters were, the properties between the masomy and the ground, the ratio between length and width, different values of Y o ungs modulus and the presence of windows and doors. The analysis was carried out in the FE-program Ansys. The present work also includes an experimental study ofthe shear be
The report includes descriptions of methods and programes that can be used to visualise buildings on a PC. These technics have been applied on a 3D-model of one of Volvos factories in Olofström, Sweden. (Swedish)
Concrete slabs were east on different ground materials to investigate frietian between the concrete and the ground. Frietian curves are non-linear and bilinear approximations were used to simplify them. This study shows different methods to create the bilinear approximation. Coefficient of frietian depends upon the normal load and the ground materials.
The system effect of sheathed lumber systems is studied, taking into account the variation of strength within and between members. A computer model is constructed and the influence of different parameters on the system interaction is examined. Experimental tests of representative systems are performed in order to confirm the finite element model. (Swedish)
CmTent methods to design and test vibration of lightweight floor structures are reviewed and investigated. The review includes the relation between measured performance and human response to vibrations. Vibration tests are performed on a lightweight floor structure. The available calculation methods are evaluated against the results from these tests. (Swedish)
The former Swedish building code did not allow designs with wood structure higherthan two floors. In 1994 the code was shifted to a more function based code that approved multi- storey timber frame houses to be built. With the change of the code research started about timber frame buildingsand today the business have passed the pilot-stageand the commercial phase has just started. The Digital prod
This report concems the use of interactive distance leaming to spread the knowled ge among employees. Research ofknowledge management, communication using the Internet and pedagogic has been done to get a good understanding of interactive distance leaming. After this awareness an investigation of the Swedish market was done to identify representative systems for interactive distance learning today
A method of calculation is developed for a new type of lightweight crossbar. To prove the validity of the method it is verified with practical experiments. Data for the material used for input in the method is experimentally determined in most cases. A discussion concerning important problems when developing a new building system is included in the report. (The report is written in Swedish.)
The purpose of this report is to analyse principles for calculations of deflections the serviceability state. Methods made in the following three codes have been considered: the Swedish BKR 99, the European Eurocode 2 and the American ACI Building Code and Requirements of Reinforced Concrete. Deflections for short term as weil as for long term loading have been investigated. The analyse has been p
The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the influence of the length effect of Structural timber. With that aim two samples with different length have been tested. Each sample has one hundred beams with the properties of both samples as close as possible. Engineering design methods for timber assume homogeneous material all along the beam, but in reality the strength is highly variable along a ti
In certain types of glulam roof structures with large spans, reliable methods for design with respect to instability are lacking. One example is a three-hinged roof truss with steel tension rods as shown in Figure 1. The types of structures shown in Figure 1 are investigated in the diploma project with the purpose to evaluate and improve the currently used design methods and detailing. Calculation
The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate effects of warping and distortion in thin-walled box-girder bridges, see figure below. The master thesis deals with a number of different analytic methods, which are compared to finite element models. Transverse distortional bending moments and direct stresses, caused by torsional and distortional warping, is determined by analytic methods. Simpl
The structural behaviour of a shear wall mainly depends on the configuration of the sheathing to framing joints, and the connections to the surrounding structure, of which the anchoring to the substrate is of major importance. However, most of the today used sh ear wall design methods are linear elastic models limited to the design of walls fully anchored at wall ends and openings. For the design
The purpose of this master thesis has been to study prestressed concrete in different bridge codes. The studied codes are the Swedish BRO 94, the American AASHTO code and Eurocode. The codes are compared by dimensioning of a bridge slab in transverse direction and the factors that decide the amount of prestressing steel are evaluated.
