I am a doctoral student in Ethics, and member of the research project FABRIC. My PhD project examines how care is conceptualised, understood and practiced – and how, in some contexts, this may result in harm or fall short of its aims, particularly at Europe’s borders.
Guided by an ethic of care, my dissertation explores how a combined empirical and conceptual approach that centres the experiences and practices of refugees can help rethink care in more just and effective ways. Within this, I pay particular attention to the role of faith-based organisations in European border spaces: while they often fill gaps in refugee relief, they may also reproduce exclusionary moral frameworks or conditional forms of care. By examining relational, migrant-led, and faith-based practices together, my project seeks to develop a framework of care that is ethically sound, critically attentive to existing tensions, and responsive to the realities of those it aims to support.
