Postgraduate Conference on Jewish Studies in the Nordic Countries - OBS change of the dates!

16 September 2024 09:00 to 17 September 2024 19:00 conference

CTR together with the UCL Hebrew and Jewish Studies organizes a hybrid conference for postgraduate students working in the area of Jewish Studies in Nordic countries.

Conference scope and structure

This year’s pilot will be hybrid with strong presence in person, comprising panels of 20-minute papers and discussion. We seek to bring together researchers from across departments and universities, to form a sense of fellowship in our interdisciplinary field. To help participants meet and connect with one another, the event will offer plenty of opportunities for socializing.

The conference will comprise panels of two to three 20-minute papers by scholars working within the field of Jewish studies in the Nordic countries, organized by theme. This will help the participants get a sense of the variety of topics and types of research conducted in the field, including discipline, time frame, methods, and focus. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Early and modern histories and cultures,
  • Linguistics and languages,
  • Literatures and communication,
  • Memory and memorialization,
  • Sociological approaches to Otherness, integration, and identity.

An updated program will be uploaded in approximately 4 weeks before the conference.

Key note speakers

  • Lecture 1: Prof. Lily Kahn, Dr. Riitta Valijärvi, UCL.
  • Lecture 2: and Dr. Jon Reitan, NTNU.

The call for papers is closed now but you can register to the conference here

The conference has received generous funding from the CEMES (Centre for Modern European Studies, University of Copenhagen) as well as Oscar och Signe Krooks stiftelse and Birgit och Sven Håkan Ohlssons fond.
