Anti-Judaic Imagery in Medieval Finland?
How to Interpret the Hattula Cross-Bearer Group
In the medieval church of Hattula, Finland, there is imagery that appears to be anti-Judaic. But at that time, as far as we know, there were no Jews in Finland. So could the local populace identify the imagery as anti-Judaic? And if so, what message did it convey to them?
Jussi Hanska is lecturer in medieval history at the University of Tampere, Finland.
The lecture is followed by a free reception. Please join us!
