The doctoral student will be part of the graduate school Society, Theology, and Church. It is financed through funds from Church of Sweden.

 

The graduate school Society, Theology, and Church is a joint responsibility of Lund University and Uppsala University, in cooperation with the Church of Sweden. The doctoral students are admitted in existing subjects at one of the universities, but they are expected to participate actively in the activities of the graduate school. The graduate school focuses on contemporary theological and religious questions, historically and in present time.

 

The graduate School Society, Theology, and Church focuses on three different themes:

1) Practice-based Theology – this theme focuses on church practice, religious agency, and strategic theological research.

2) Nature, Humans, and Faith – this theme focuses on faith/religion and questions of ecology, climate change, and technical development.

3) Religious Dialogue and Theology of Religions – this theme focuses on the interaction between different religious traditions, groups, and individuals, locally and globally.

 

The doctoral student will be admitted to one of the following subjects:

- Old Testament Exegesis

- Global Christianity and Interreligious Relations

- Jewish Studies

- Church History

- New Testament Exegesis

- Practical Theology

- Philosophy of Religion and Ethics

- History of Religion

- History of Religion specialising in Islamology

- Systematic Theology

Work assignments

Doctoral education. Departmental work, such as teaching and administrative tasks, can be assigned.

Assessment criteria

The selection process will primarily take into account the applicants’ ability to benefit from third cycle studies. This is assessed against the criteria quality, quantity, progression and relevance.

 

The application must include:

 

- CV/list of qualifications including relevant administrative and educational qualifications

- cover letter

- records of first- and second-cycle studies (attested copies of official transcripts of records)

- documentation of language skills of relevance for the research studies

- first- and second-cycle theses/degree projects

- any scholarly publications

- project proposal (1500 words max. excluding references)
